Bibby, Teague
JJ, JC, JC2
MW, ????
Smoove, Powell
AL, ZaZa, Twin

How about Walter Herrmann. has size and is good from the three, and would come cheap or should come cheap anyway.

we have beef though with Twin, ZaZa, Horford, Josh Smith and Powell. we need outside shooting and another wing. I wouldn't be upset with more size though, but who is out there at the kind of money that ASG would be willing to pay?

Jason Collins and Josh Powell are not 'beef,' they're scrubs.

Kwame? He's a scrub, but at least he can play 15-20 minutes a game defensively, and a legitimate C.

I would rather have Kwame too. but he"s asking price it to high. ASG wouldn't even give the MLE for SHAQ so I know they wouldn't for Kwame. I am trying to look for a player that would give us some kind of NBA skill set that would benefit the Hawks. I think Walter has one. he as size and can streach the floor. can knock down the three and he can handle the ball.

Ignoring the concept of using roster spots to develop players to contribute when you know you will be making tough decisions due to cap reasons (like a PG and SF), I have two different ways to go with the last required roster spot (we could have 15 if we were willing to pay).
#1 The skill set I believe the coaching staff is most worried that we are missing is perimeter D. With Evans coming off surgery there must be worries that he won't be able to defend at a high enough level. That's the driving force behind the Pape Sy buyout rumor. I've glanced at the free agent list and I don't have any great suggestions exist maybe Ime Udoka. The thing with defensive wings is that they don't necessarily stand out in stats, so I'm sure there are players who could fill this that I'm not thinking of. If it wasn't for the fear of losing Horford in free agency I would suggest trading Evans expiring deal for a similar cost player with a longer contract to fill this role.

#2 The position that seems most susceptible to injury problems is the front line. If Josh Smith or Al Horford were to get knocked out of the lineup for any period of time, we could possibly have Marvin move up and Zaza play more minutes but the rotation of bigs gets weak quick. To this end you would think another big could help. That big could be Josh Boone, Louis Amundson, Kwame Brown, of DJ Mbenga. The key is that Atlanta isn't spending more than the minimum on this guy which was a lot less than Kwame was asking for the last time I heard his name in the press. Also the teams desire to limit to one year to preserve flexibility for Horford negotiations probably keeps this from being a quick signing. Kwame has the body for the job, but not necessarily the heart. Amundson is unlikely at the minimum because for that he could return to Phoenix. Boone seems like the right balance of price tag and willingness to fill that role.

Pretty sure that if we still don't have a 13th spot, it's because they want Pape Sy.

Le Havre can say No, but if the 500k can help them, it would be done, unless ATL is offering a little buy-out.

The other thing that could be happening is that they will take someone from training camp as the 13th player rather than sign a guaranteed contract to someone now.

A perimeter-oriented big.

I just realized that Earl Barron is still unsigned. I'd really like another big after reading that the bench could see more action under Drew's system.

A like that as a skill set we're missing, but not sure who's out there that fits that bill.

Walter Herrmann won't exactly fill a need for us.

The sadness of his life: His fiancee, his mother and his younger sister all died in head-on car accident. A family friend was also in the car and everyone in both cars died. Seven total.

Herrmann's a tweener. More a SF, but lacking some of the quickness he would need on D. Not much a rebounder to see much action at the 4. He was great in limited minutes his first year in the NBA, but his shooting really dropped of and has never fully returned. I checked his Euroleague numbers and he's closer to 33% from 3 pt range now and that's a far cry from the 46% he shot his first year in Charlotte. I'd want more out of his shot considering the holes in his game. Also, I think he can do better financially in Europe than what Atlanta would pay.

It's still possible that rookie forward Pape Sy will join the Hawks for the 2010-11 season.

Atlanta drafted Sy in the second round of June's NBA Draft.

Sy is set to report to camp for French club Le Havre, but the Hawks are still talking to Le Havre about a buyout of the final year of Sy's contract.

Maybe there will be 14 spots, because ATL seems to still try to get Pape Sy, so if the rumor of Thomas is true, it would make 14 roster spots... unless there is a trade coming that would bring less player.
