Before it gets suggested again that we should trade for Anthony now that it appears he wants out of Denver I wanted to chime in with an opposing point of view. If Anthony is determined to try free agency then his value would be low to Atlanta. If you trade for him you are banking on that if he spends time in the organization that he will want to stay. That's a huge risk for Atlanta. You can only do the player rental if you think it's the piece that gets you over the top (hard to walk if you are playing for a title) and I don't think that is the case for us. We aren't rental close nor do we have the accumulated assets to rent a star.

I think people think that Melo would be convinced that Atlanta is a great place and would fall in love with the city and stay. I think the reality is that Melo already has his mind made up about where he wants to go.

I think Al Horford is the one keeper we have on the team. We'll need to tread lightly and not risk our future for him since he can just bolt at the end of the season.

Carmelo Anythony and his wife La La Vazquez seem to have a great deal of family in New York. La La Vazquez did an internship at V103 when she was younger, so she probably has some connections here as well, but not as many family connections, and the couple seems to have their heart set on New York.

Yes, I think we're going to max out Horford if needed (depends on what offers he gets).

Even if you are working on the concept of not resigning Horford you are winding up with a lineup weak in the middle for this season by making that trade. We'd have a sexier big 3 than we already have especially on offense, but possibly a less functional one overall.

If he signs an extension, you trade for him. Now, Horford is untradeble in my opinion. Move Horford back to PF, get a cheap decent C, not the scrub Zaza type, and send J. Smith's ass to Denver.

Dec 15th, but I don't think an overpaid Joe is going to be desirable to Denver. The only hope of dealing Joe is that a deep-pocketed team looking to make a run this year, which outside of Dallas may leave us hoping that Joe just doesn't drop off in performance for many years.

The concept of dumping Joe for an expiring Carmelo (if Denver would do it) may be worthwhile in that it is a do over on that contract, but I still don't think Carmelo would stay in Atlanta unless the financial difference between bird rights and outright free agency is expanded in the next CBA. The current system of an extra year and 10.5% vs 8.0% raises aren't enough to affect the more marketable players in the league. At this point I've not heard any suggestion that the new CBA give greater leverage to the current team like that. Although you got wonder if the smaller owners might push for something in light of this summer's events.

All the teams that are on his list have both a solid ownership and general manager.

I wouldn't consider the Knicks to have those qualities, but they will spend money and they are the biggest market.

I was thinking about the new additions to his list and just posted. Like you pointed out, the Knicks have the market, money to spend, and solid future if Donnie stops making poor decisions.
