The problem is we don't have anything to give up for an elite one. trading Smith or Horford would be a huge mistake, and a package of Crawford, Marvin, and picks isn't that enticing to most teams with a great PG.

If Melo gets traded I do think the Nuggets will end up trading Billups for an expiring and a pick. BUt I don't think that the ASG would pay the luxury tax to bring him in.

I think Chauncey is showing his age and would therefore not be worth it from a talent standpoint either. It seems that having to shoulder a larger scoring load last season and playing in the Worlds has sapped him of his strength. Although the season is still young he's not even close to his usual efficient self out there.

ASG seems to not trading Teague, at least if not for a PG :
according to ESPN, ATL rebuffed (don't know when) a trade based on Jason Thomson for Jeff Teague
Thompson is averaging just 15.4 minutes per game off the bench and has been shopped by the Kings, who according to one source with knowledge of the talks offered the 6-11, 250-pounder to Atlanta in a deal featuring young point guard Jeff Teague. The Hawks declined. (

would need to know if other players were involved to really have a POV on the trade.

It's hard for you to make a trade for a PG without giving something of significant value. Your best bet would be to partner with a lottery team with an overpaid PG. You can offer relief with Jamal Crawford (which is an interesting piece on his own) or Mike Bibby's relative short contract along with some draft picks.
You could get some players like:
Jose Calderon / Jarret Jack
Baron Davis
Mo Williams (although i find this one particularly unlikely)
Nash might become avalaible, which would be great for you, but there's going to be more bidders
You also might pry someone undervalued in their own team (beno udrih comes to my mind).
But as usual, most of that trades imply delving into the luxury tax this year or the next... and your organization has to decide if it is worthy to try now that you have a good core.

But if we offer relief, we don't have it anymore, that means that trading Crawford puts us over the tax next season, and I don't think ASG would want that for PG like Calderon or Jack.

If we could some how land Jack or B. Diddy. I think it would be good for us.

Jack isn't any better than Bibby, and Baron would only be successful on a frontrunning team with media attention like the Lakers.

I thought Teague was the answer?

No one ever said that Teague was the answer - just that he COULD and still CAN be.

Azureus- there are plenty of people who thought that Teague would be a quality starter for THIS season.

I believe even the biggest homers in me and dallas didn't think he'd be ready until mid-December at earliest, giving him still a month.

teague is just not a good fit for this team. if i was Sund I would've accepted the deal for Jason Thompson even if we give up our only backup pg. Crawford could play some time at the 1.

A) Mayo is terrible at point, if anything JJ would play the 1.
B) The whole OJ Mayo stuff is exactly what people do to us and Smoove.

As a Cavs fan, I have been interested in a Mo/Moon for Marvin/Evans swap. I think Marvin would be a good fit in Byron Scott's uptempo offense. Mo can play off the ball or split the ball handling with JJ, and Moon would give you a stopgap starter or backup SF.

They tried OJ Mayo at the point in summer league and the verdict was to overpay Mike Conley on an extension.

Conley is actually good, far from a verdict.
