You want to trade Joe Johnson for nothing but cap space, and then re-sign a 30 year old Jamal Crawford who is clearly worse to a 4 year deal?

Thank god you're not our GM.

Please no.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

The strange thing is that the Knicks wouldn't do the deal. With the hope of landing Carmelo Anthony in the offseason they aren't going to take on Joe's salary at this point as it would limit their flexibility. If you are going to dream of dumping Joe's salary for cap space and a do over then Dallas is the logical partner. They have plenty of expiring deals to work with and Joe could be seen as a short term upgrade at either the 2 or the 3. It would require the Hawks completely falling apart for it to happen though. If cap space is what you really seek then perhaps a deal of Joe and Marvin for Tyson Chandler, Caron Butler, and Deshawn Stevenson and a pick would be most appropriate. Cuban's deep pockets could absorb the length of Joe's deal and Marvin being extremely well paid to be a passive role player and the Hawks would have plenty of cap space to tinker with as all 3 are expiring. Furthermore, in totally cratering we should be in line to add either a PG or young big in the draft and with the Mavs pick we could possibly add a replacement wing at a reasonable price. Marvin and Joe would actually probably work well in Dallas as Marvin could crash the boards from the 3 spot with Dirk playing outside more and Joe would be an upgrade at the 2. The only risk is that they'll become 2 small relying on Haywood at the 5 instead of Chandler and Haywood.

I don't advocate this trade or any right now, just suggesting it as a better day dream for the cap starved. Personally I don't want it to all fall apart. I'd like Joe to get out of his funk and Marvin to watch Wizard of Oz and figure out whatever part he's missing from be a positive member of the team. I expect a long nasty lockout next season, so I'd like my last sure season of attending Hawks games in person to be as successful as possible.
