Anyone miss Josh Childress?

I miss the afro in the city of Atlanta. Just reminiscing on the BOS-ATL playoff series... wonder what it would take to get him back pretend like our owners have balls. Maurice Evans + 2011 1st would do it you think? Then we can complete our 'should have been' roster by picking up Derek Anderson with a second round pick or something.

Don't miss him at all. Anyone who thinks they deserve to have their contract talked about before someone who is clearly better is not someone I want back on the team. he got pisses, left for Greece, then complained the whole time he was over there that the Hawks would match any deal and he didn't want to play for them...so boo hoo.

I wish him well, but no.

PHO is looking for ways to dump him, so all we have to do is wait and pick him up at the vet minimum. Sorry, a guy who drops the NBA doesn't because he really doesn't care to play at the highest level doesn't interest me.
I was a fan of his until he showed himself.

Knowing Sarver, he's a long way from just waiving a guy who still has 4 and 1/2 years and 30mil left on his contract for nothing. Either way, I don't miss him. The guy thought he was entitled to respect, money and playing time here now he's in a situation quickly racking up DNPCDs on a team struggling to reach .500. He could still help certain teams but his limitations as a player are still too apparent for him to possess his old attitude.

You can't really know if he doesn't care about playing at the highest level, because having a starting spot in one of the best team of Euroleague is certainly on a highest level than a low or mid level team in NBA.
Not saying ATL was low or mid, but they didn't look like a contender, and he has some points on the fact that he could have get at least a try at the starting SF, because Marvin never really deserve it more than him.
And if he did not want to play for these owners and GM, he had no other choice : out of the NBA, due to the restricted F.A. rule. This rule would have not exist, he would not have left the NBA.
Playing under other rules can also help improving your game, even if he came back not really better than when he left.
I admit I miss his "energizer" attitude, remind me what Bobby Jackson brougth to SAC in their good years, but it also right that it was not the biggest loss.

For Mo and a late 2011 1st i would actually accept that as a Hawks fan. I liked his athleticism and his penchant for getting offensive rebounds.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I disagree with that statement.
Childress wanted more than he was worth AND a guarantee of a starting position. As soon as Athens got him, they regretted it. As soon as PHO acquired him, they regretted it. My heart goes out to hustle players but I'd never agree to overpay or overPLAY them.

For the record, Marvin was on track (almost 15 ppg) until Al showed up and then JC1, both taking some minutes but mostly ball away from MW.

What you quote and what you answer are two different things in my eyes.
I totally agree on what you're saying, he certainly asked for too much money and starting job, but even if it's right, it can't say that he doesn't care playing at the highest level.
That's what I wanted to say. The two things have no link IMO
I am pretty sure that Pete Mickeal, playing in Barcelona and writing for Hoopshype would tell you that playing for a top Euroleague team is harder competition than a mid-level NBA team.
Don't forget that in other league, you cannot said at half season "oh, we are fighting for a playoffs spot, do we continue, or do we tank and get better chances at a better player in the draft", because there is no draft, and if you don't win, you are not in the league anymore.
That also mean that even the worst team in the league will fight as hard as they can, because they don't want to be out of the league.

I'm sorry, if you're confused, that's my fault. The part where I quoted, I honestly had no response. If I'd said anything, I probably would have spoken in insulting terms, so I just said I disagree. And I stopped there.
The 2nd part is ANOTHER opinion of mine, unrelated to my opinion of the assertion that the best Euroleague teams are equal to or better than the mid-to-low NBA teams.
My bad.

There's no draft in college or high school basketball, either. Does that mean that teams playing for the HS state championship perform at a higher level than, say, the Clippers?
I believe the best players and the best teams are all in the NBA. If there were ONE superior European player, we'd be working to get him over here and - most likely - he'd be trying to get here, too.

I still regret that Billy Knight didn't make a long term decision concerning SF and trade either Childress or Marvin while they were still on their rookie deals (to parlay them into something else while they had value), but I have no desire to have Childress back (especially at his current contract price tag). Josh Childress did certain things well, but given his position he doesn't bring as much to the table as Matt Barnes at 3 times the pay. The flaws in his game are obvious (slow shot release that makes it difficult to get his shot off) and that mitigates his worth to a team. Admittedly Mo Evans is having a bad season, but I wouldn't replace him with a huge salary commitment to a role player. Not to mention the 1st round pick which could likely yield a future PG (Walker, Selby, McCamey, or Smith) if Teaguedoesn't progress rapidly enough, or at worst could likely land a backup SF/SG (Leslie, Joseph, maybe even Singler if he drops) that could contribute what Childress does at a fraction of the price for many years.

We were not supposed to talk about level of the team, but level of competition.
I don't say that the team is better, but that more games in regular season will be hard than a NBA team like LAC.
You can say that a guy playing for one of the top Euroleague team doesn't care about competition more than a random player if LAC.
Some player will, some won't, but you can 't make it a sure thing.
