Chauncy Billups buyout

Post#1 » by perthwildcat » Tue Jan 11, 2011 8:38 am

He would prefer to remain in Denver and it was reported over the weekend that the veteran will seek a buyout if he's traded to New Jersey.

Interesting option for our backcourt.

What type of contract will it take to get him in a Hawks uni?

He prefers to remain in DEN, but why ?
- for his family, then he want a buy-out to return to DEN
- because he feels he has more chance to get an extension with DEN ?

on the other hand :
he already said he would seek a buyout to get all option on negotiating a new contract, which would mean he doesn't necessary want to return to DEN

IMO, we don't know what he want, and he could say that to put pressure on NJN to give him an extension at the same time they give it to Anthony.

If he gets a buyout as soon as he's in NJN, signing him even with a minimum contract, could put us in LT, because at this moment, we are almost at the threshold and we don't know if Marvin and Josh can get their unlikely bonus.

If we do it, it can be for the remaining part of the MLE, nearly the full MLE.
It means we have more chance to get him doing a trade, but he could also want a buy-out here.

he might want to go back to Denver or go to a Playoff contender.

the only playoff teams that need a PG are the Heat, Hawks, and Lakers

it might be like the Shaq situation where Billups will go to the team who makes the strongest push.

This is just a guess on my part but he was born in Denver and matriculated at the U. of Colorado, so maybe that's where his home is.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

I thought about his family, that's why I said "- for his family, then he want a buy-out to return to DEN", but I totally forgot that he was from DEN, and now you said that, it makes more sense.
