Two Trades the Hawks Should Make...

Trade No.1 (between ATL, the Clipps, & Indy)
Hawks get:
Chris Kaman
Josh McRoberts
future 1st round pick (from Indy, lotto protected)
Clipps get:
Paul George
T.J. Ford (possibly waived)
Pacers get:
Josh Smith
Jason Collins
WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HAWKS:
They get a legit C in Kaman, which allows them to move Horford down to PF. They also save some money since Kaman's deal is a year shorter than Smoove's.
Trade No.2 (between ATL & Washington)
Hawks get:
Kirk Hinrich
Hilton Armstrong
Wiz get:
Mike Bibby
Mo Evans
future 1st round pick (via Indy)
WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HAWKS:
Hinrich is an upgrade from Bibby. He is younger, better defensively, and a pretty good 3-point shooter.
NEW HAWKS ROSTER:
PG-Kirk Hinrich/Jeff Teague
SG-Joe Johnson/Jamal Crawford/Jordan Crawford
SF-Marvin Williams/Damien Wilkens/Pape Sy
PF-Al Horford/Josh Powell/Josh McRoberts
C-Chris Kaman/Zaza Pachulia/Etan Thomas/Hilton Armstrong
-This team is more balanced offensively and, best of all, we don't take on lengthy contracts and look pretty good financially since Hinrich and Kaman come off the books next year.

The Hinrich deal makes sense. We'd miss the 50% 3pt shooting that Bibby is giving at the moment and Hinrich has never been called a playmaker but I admit he'd be an improvement.
The Kaman deal is a bad deal. Smoove is better defensively AND offensively. The idea that we need just any 7 footer is wrong. Smoove blocks shots better, rebounds better; heck, if we put him in the post, he'd play Center better than Kaman does -- and that's not hyperbole.
Even the Clips fans agree that Kaman is a downgrade from Smoove. They've conceded - since last year - that any Kaman/Smoove deal would have to include healthy add-ins from LA.
And Collins helps against Dwight Howard better than any option we possess, why throw him in?

Agreed. I would also prefer Calderon over Hinrich at the moment...
I would do a Bibby to TOR and marv to PHIL for Calderon and T. Young in terurn
Bibby + Songalia (exp) + ATL 2nd to TOR
Marvin + Dorsey + ATL 2nd to PHIL
Caledron -Teague
JJ=JC1-JC2
Young- Mo- Wilkins
Smoothe- Powell- Al
Al- Zaza- Collins

Raptors would gladly do:
Marvin + Bibby for Calderon + Kleiza
Raptors take a chance on Marvin, and you guys get a better play maker and overall better 3 pt shooting...?

I'm not crazy about either of the O.P. trades. Kaman while being a true C is a health concern. He's missed major portions of 3 of the last 4 seasons. Giving up Josh Smith in the deal to get him I feel is paying full retail price for a player who should be marked down some. On the second deal, Hinrich is younger, better defensively (but not necessarily lock down), and a decent 3 point shooter as you say, but he isn't a true point. If we part with Bibby I'm hopeful it is for a PG who will run the offense creating shots for Joe, Josh, Al, Marvin, etc. Hinrich just doesn't fit that definition in my eyes.
While you balance the lineup I feel the result will be a much weaker overall team with even less chance for post-season success.

+1. Kaman just isn't good enough to be the main component of any deal involving one of our core pieces. He's a decent #3 or 4 option on O who is very average defensively. If he gets any more usage then his %'s go down precipitously. I've seen several writeups that list Kaman as one of the biggest mistakes even in the AS Selection.
Honestly, I wouldn't take on Kaman unless the Clips added some sweetener...

I do not think the Raptors would do that trade, but I would do it. Also the trade for Hinrich would be really great. Hinrich is a great fit wherever he goes and I do not get why coaches do not see that.
The big trade I would do would be this one, taking into account that the Suns accept:
Horford
Crawford
Bibby/Teague
for
Nash
López
Pietrus
I believe that gives us a real point guard whose contract, in adittion, will end in a year and a half. We also get a decent guard at a decent price (5.3 is ok) and a center that is still developing, at a cheap price and that is a good one when playing with Nash.
If this does not work, we can reconstruct in two seasons.
Of course we give Horford in the deal, but I believe we get a real star and two good role players to complement.
I believe this roster is much better than the one we have right now.
Nash
JJ
Williams
Powell
López
----------
bench 1st unit
Hinrich
Pietrus
JSmoove (I would like to see him off the bench so he can enter for any of the 2 forwards)
----------
bench 2nd unit
Evans
Pachulia
Collins

I wouldn't want Altanta to move Horford for Nash. No way DUDE. we do need a point but not at the cost of Smoove or Horford unless it is Chris Paul or maybe D. Williams. Now if Nash was about ten years younger, yes!

while GSW probably could move Ellis to PG...they won't pay Bibby $6+ mill next year as an old backup. They can't win using Lee at C. So?
Curry + Vlad (exp fill) for Smith would work...if GSW then trades Lee. That...however..gets the Hawks a PG but not a C so Horford could go to PF but then it's Zaza at C.
I think eventually some workable version could happen...this ain't it.
Looks like Hawk and GSW fans are both frustrated at players underperforming. Is it so hard to find a coach who can get everyone functioning up to par?
