Hawks Become Contenders While Remaining Under the Tax

Trade No.1 (between Atlanta, Phoenix, & Dallas)
Hawks get:
Steve Nash
Brendan Haywoode
Brian Cardinal

Suns get:
Jeff Teague
Jamal Crawford
Ian Mahinmi
2011 1st round pick (from ATL)

Mavs get:
Josh Childress
Zaza Pachulia

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HAWKS:
They become a contender with this trade. Nash is still one of the best PGs in the league and would make Smoove and Horford that much better. He also has experience playing in the backcourt with JJ. They also get a legit 7'footer to help up front in Haywoode. Yes, they take on salary in this trade, but I think it's worth it since Nash would re-energize this team and make them a real threat against Boston, Miami, and Orlando.
HAWKS LINE-UP:
PG-Nash/Bibby
SG-Johnson/Crawford
SF-Williams/Evans
PF-Smoove/Powell
C-Horford/Haywoode/Thomas

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE SUNS:
They save a TON of money by removing Nash and Chill's contracts from the books. They get back a big expiring in Crawford and a young PG with good upside in Teague. They also get a 1st rounder to aid in the rebuilding process.
SUNS LINE-UP:
PG-Teague/Dragic
SG-Carter/Crawford
SF-Hill/Dudley/Pietrus
PF-Frye/Warrick/Lawal
C-Gortat/Lopez

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE MAVS:
They dump the underwhelming Haywoode and get back a good replacement big in Pachulia and a wingman who can help with the absence of Butler in Childress. I know they already brought in Peja, but he's more of an off-the-bench zone buster at this point. Childress would be a big help defensively on the perimeter and is a good rebounder for a wingman.
MAVS LINE-UP:
PG-Kidd/Barea/Beabuois
SG-Stevenson/Terry
SF-Childress/Stojackavic/Pavlovic
PF-Nowitski/Marion
C-Chandler/Pachulia

Trade No.2 (between Atlanta & Cleveland)
Hawks get:
Jamario Moon
Leon Powe

Cavs get:
Marvin Williams
Josh Powell

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HAWKS:
Dump Marv's deal and get back productive role players.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE CAVS:
Williams could blossom in a different system where he'll get more touches. He'd get that chance in Cleveland.

NEW HAWKS ROSTER:
PG-Steve Nash/Mike Bibby
SG-Joe Johnson/Jordan Crawford
SF-Jamario Moon/Mo Evans
PF-Josh Smith/Leon Powe/Brian Cardinal
C-Al Horford/Brendan Haywoode/Jason Collins/Etan Thomas

You only kept them under the tax for one season. Not gonna work.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
