Kendrick Perkins, maybe next year?

guys, would Kendrick Perkins be a guy that could help use next year? I know first of all, we have to resolve our pg issue. But, he 25, and would provide use with some additional toughness down low.
Just thinking outside the box alittle.

Not really outside the box. Kendrick would be a great signing except that we have no cap room to do it. We have 65M committed without resigning Jamal. Even without considering that the new CBA is likely to change the rules, we'd be in luxury tax to even offer him the MLE.

Sorry to be a downer.

Yeah, a healthy Perkins would be the ideal guy to land for us. The active big who can rebound and play post D and set some hard picks on O. This would be the type of guy that I'd think we should be looking to dump Zaza, Bibby, or Marvin to make a run @ in the off-season.

According to the wiretap, he turned down a 4 yr/30M dollar extension which tells you how much he expects to make. With the money committed elsewhere Perkins is an unrealistic target. Too bad, I agree he would be a great fit.

Exactly what evildallas said. Would he be a good addition? Yes. Can we get him with our current cap situation? Nope.

What if we S&T for him? Not sure what Boston would be looking for in return, but I'd be willing to trade pretty much anyone outside of Smoove or Horford for him.

Outside of Smoove and Horford how much value does the rest of the roster hold? Joe? His price tag kills his trade value. Marvin? Until he shows more he's also priced out of any real trade value. Zaza? Maybe, but not when you are trading for a C upgrade. Bibby? He'll be an expiring, but that's only really useful when someone is trying to dump a contract, not a sign and trade. Teague? Jordan Crawford? Neither have had a chance to show enough to be desired. Jamal? Won't be under contract.

I was thinking something along the lines of Jamal S&T for Perkins S&T.

Ahhh, the mythical 2x SNT. You hear about it so much on boards, yet never really see it in reality. There might be a case or 2 someone could pull out with enough research, but it's really unrealistic to think that 2 teams could actually make something like that happen.

Still, it would be nice to get Perkins...

Why on earth would Jamal agree to that? Get paid to just be a backup? I have a feeling he wants to get paid to be a starter on a team.

And that is why the double S&T rarely works in reality. It is so hard for 2 teams to be respective best fits for each other's free agents. With the way Boston spent money already Jamal neither fits in terms of payroll or position.

Just reported that Perkins denied those rumors and said the contract was closer to 4 yr/22M... Here is a quote:
A. Sherrod Blakely, CNNSE.com wrote:"That wasn't it. They offered me four years, but it was closer to like $22 million," Perkins said. "You talking four years, $30 million! Shoot, that's different. That's a big difference."
The MLE last year (as per Wesley Mathews contract) would be a little over 25M for 4 yr or 32.5M over 5. At this point, I'm a BIG proponent of freeing the MLE and offering it all to Perkins with a PO after year 3. That's the best we could realistically do. If Perkins would take it or not is an entirely different ? though...

Maybe we could sell Perkins on the idea of a young dominant power frontcourt with above-average backcourt? Smoove/Horford/Perkins are all around the same age, and if developed well would be a legitimate championship frontcourt.

If the MLE is the price for Perkins, MIA will be hard to beat.

Whether or not the 4/30 report was true, it's the least that will be needed to get him. I could see 5/12, like Horford/Bogut/Noah. Not saying he's as good as those 3 but that's closer to his level - in terms of talent, age and position.

The quote I posted from Perkins above sure makes it sound like 4 yr/30M would get it done. Wish we could offer it... and that BOS doesn't.
