If the rumored NJ/DEN deal goes through that would send Billups/Anthony/Balkman/Ely to NJ for Favors, Harris, Murphy, and 4 1st rounders, the Hawks need to get on the phone and try to get Harris from the Nuggets.
I don't think Denver will want to keep Devin since they have Lawson waiting in the wings and a decent backup in Carter.
Here's the deal we should try to make:
Hawks get;
Devin Harris
JR Smith
Nuggets get:
Jamal Crawford
Mo Evans
2011 1st rounder
*NOTE: A player recently traded can be packaged with another player if they are re-traded within 48 hours of the original deal (I believe this is the current CBA rule). So the Hawks would need to act fast.
Thoughts?

I like this deal but I can't imagine it going through. JR is almost as good as Jamal, and Harris is worth waayyy more than Mo Evans + a 1st.

Disagree -- a ton.

But the expirings and picks are what DEN wants. They can't ask for that AND superior talent. Besides, DEN is looking to play Ty Lawson at the point.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Re: If 'Melo Deal Goes Through, Hawks Should Deal for Harris
It's a reasonable idea. The guy I had been targeting was Chris Anderson, but that was before the Nets got back into the picture. My concern are that Harris has more suitors and that JR Smith while a headcase is already expiring so they may not be inclined to see dealing him as a big advantage.
This trade would dump 2 salary commitments and net a pick which I think would be more enticing to Denver and while we lose the Jamal Crawford scoring punch off the bench we pick up a serviceable defense C and energy guy.
Harris
Anderson
for
Crawford
Evans
1st
Lineup
Harris/Bibby/Teague
Johnson/Wilkens/Jordan Crawford
Josh Smith/Marvin Williams
Horford/Powell
Anderson/Pachulia/Collins/Thomas
I like the idea, but worry about bench production (the OP trade covers that but as I said I don't think Denver has enough incentive to do that one). If I could get Sessions and Parker out of Cleveland for Williams and Teague I would do it instead because I think it serves us better for the long run by moving Williams contract and keeping Crawford.

If they don't trade JR ( expiring) what about a home run
Marvin, CJ, Zaza & 2011 First for
Devin Harris & Nene
I know, but I can dream!

Nene is also expiring (can opt out), so I doubt they take on Marvin and Zaza's deals for him. They might deal JR Smith, but as they would get other offers for Harris I just think taking a long term deal off them is the way to move to the front of the line. Harrington's deal is horrible, but Anderson's is just about right.
