Would you do this? MAJOR step backwards...

Joe/Marvelous/Zaza to WAS for Rashard Lewis/Hinrich/McGee? WAS does it to get out from under Lewis and Hinrich's contracts. Joe may be expensive but he's good while Lewis is obscenely expensive and stinks. Marvelous add potential for a young team that doesn't really have a SF.

Forget about the justification for us this year -- it'd KILL us this year. However, in 2013, we would only be committed to McGee/Horford/Smoove. No one else. We'd owe Smoove $13 million, Horford $12 million and have to make a qualifying offer to McGee of $3,494,145. We'd be on the hook for only $28,494,145.

Would having that frontcourt make us attractive to Chris Paul? We'd be about $30 million under the cap -- would Paul be further enticed knowing we'd have the chance to sign ANOTHER max contract in addition to him?

No, I don't think I would. The deal would kill us for a couple years (Lewis) and leave us hoping to fill out the lineup then. On the upside we might have decent draft picks for a couple years, but I have more faith in myself to identify draft talent than the ASG organization so it probably won't matter much.

I'm not opposed to burning it all down, but I'm not to point of using Lewis's horrible contract to do it.

I hear ya .... and the OP is just a thought.

I'm just reacting because I look around the NBA and see that only those teams that have a "big 3" or are talented with a top-flight PG have a chance. However, seriously, if our team gives up and stops believing they have a chance, this might be our only way.

I seriously considered it, Lewis's deal and the 2 more years of ill-fitting pieces was too much for me to bear.

I still think that if we can get upgrade PG and get a serviceable big that Johnson, Smith, and Horford would make a good 2-3-4. I'm even willing to give up Smith to get a C (see other posts).

I'm a big believer in Sessions because I see the flaws on the offense, but the rumor that they are pursuing Hinrich tells me the team is more concerned about defense. I agree that defense is a problem, but I don't see that PG change solving it because the hole reopens whenever Crawford is on the floor. I think we need to do something that makes us offensively more efficient and less dependent on Crawford, so that our 2nd unit isn't such a sieve.

Lewis' deal stinks, no doubt, but I perked up a little when I saw it's for only one more year. In 2013, the deal is non-guaranteed.

I think the interest in Hinrich is, in part, because we have a team vision that doesn't include the need for a playmaking PG. I think they're wrong but that's just me.

Lewis in 2012-13 is partially guaranteed for $12,577,000, which isn't the full bill, but still would stop us from being players in free agency that year.
