ESPN Insider is reporting that Mike Bibby and the Washington Wizards are close to an agreement on a contract buyout. The Miami Heat and the Portland Trailblazers are both said to be interested.

The last thing I want to see happen is Bibby hitting open 3's for Miami.

Yeah, I was hoping WASH would keep him for awhile to mentor Wall... I guess that ain't happening. I'll be interested to see what type of market he actually gets after the buyout. MIA is an obvious candidates, but I could also see them not playing him at all come playoff time. Giving up way too much on D, and they wouldn't want their stars picking up fouls if an opposing PG gets loose. Would they be happy with sticking Wade on the opposing PG? Dunno... POR is more interesting since he would give them a tryout with Roy's demand for a better shooter from the PG slot. Interesting short term fit there.

Is there any reason he wouldn't consider coming back here? Having Heinrich and Bibby would be pretty sweet.

He'd probably have a better chance at a title with another team and he also wouldn't have to wait a month.

Wall seems like he has a very good head on his shoulders, so he might not necessarily need a mentor. If anything, he might need veterans like (younger versions of) Eric Snow and Aaron McKie to actually play with him.

Falk says Bibby won't pursue buyout now. "It’s difficult to go from a playoff team to a non-playoff team, but he’s a professional." (Michael Lee/Twitter)
It's going to be a difficult situation for Bibby but I wish him the best.

I feel real sorry for Bibby. He was great for us, just a couple of ears too late.
I hope for his sake he ends up with a contender.

I became a fan of Bibby these couple years he was here.We all know the flaws in his game at this point, but he was as clutch as they come.... I would love to see him back here, he always seemed to be very comfortable with the other Hawks. He won't win a title in Portland for sure, has a better shot in Miami, but he would play very little there...why not us?

Yes, and the reason comes from our cheap owners, even if it would be stupid to pay LT just to add Bibby now.
I am not sure, but it seems we are now nearly at the threshold, so adding a minimum salary can put us over.
Bibby deserves to be bought out and sign with a contender or here.
He brought a lot to ATL. If we can't get him back just because of the LT, it would be stupid because it just needed to send another minimum player to WAS or even any team (minimum salary can be traded without anything in return).

If Bibby is good to the Wiz, the Wiz will be good to him. They're usually good with sending their players off to contending teams. Jamison, Arenas, Caron & Kirk were sent to contenders so I don't expect anything less for Bibby during the offseason.

I hope Bibby comes back to Atlanta. if the hawks buy out Etan Thomas and/or Powell they maybe able to bring back Bibby after the Wiz buy him out plus they can get another big somewhere i.e. D-league or off the waiver wire
