Michael Redd is not healthy and the Hawks just extended Horford. Why would they deal him away for a guy whose game seems to have been impacted pretty severely after a nasty arm injury last year?

So you're trading 2 PF's who happen to be younger for 2 injury prone C's? huh??

no you can't we can't get any worse than we are now. so why not try something different. we need a center. and I don't believe that we could get Howard or Bynum or any other center that some type of risk wouldn't be involved for any of the two. both are PFs' we need to move one anyway. why not get something we need. a starting calibre center?

Suns trade: Marcin Gortat, Josh Childress
Hawks trade: Josh Smith, future 1st

Hawks get heir starting Center and can move Horford to PF.

Suns get a starting PF to replace Amare, or a starting SF to replace Grant Hill. Nash with Smoove would be pretty sick.

Caveat: As a Suns fan it would really hurt to give up Gortat. He is definitely a starting calibre center, and if I thought about it for a while even Josh Smith might not get Gortat in a trade.

The art of a deal: you never give up the best player AND the best prospect in any deal. Smoove is the best player; the #1 would be the best prospect since there is no other prospect. The deal would be an easy pass for any 1/2 decent GM.

On top of that, the current regime would never take Chills back for any reason. There was some definite bad blood there and it took 2 years before we'd even bother trading him for a future 2nd - so forth take him on ourselves.

If you're looking @ Smoove for Gortat, then I'd be game, but the deal on the table is flat insulting. Something closer to Gortat, Pietrus (useful expiring), and a 1st coming our way would be about the lowest I'd go.

Fair enough. You counter offer that Suns swap Childress for Pietrus and his (2012) expiring. That seems reasonable

The reason Hawks pay more is that they have more to gain. You're a playoff team with considerable talent that for some reason doesn't seem to be able to take it to the next level. Getting a high-calibre starting center (Hawks fans seem to believe) will move the team from perennial 1st round elimination to further into the playoffs, possibly all the way to the Finals. If adding a center to allow Horford to play PF is all you need to get to the next level, why wouldn't you include your 1st? How good a "prospect" is the 27 - 30 pick in the draft? Thats what the Hawks pick would be if this plan panned out.

Suns on the other hand are entering a rebuild mode after 1/2 a decade of high level basketball. Getting Smoove would be an upgrade, but he's not going to restore our glory days by himself. Suns have so many pieces to add to get back to elite level that it's going to take a couple of years (if everyhting goes according to plan) that if we don't get him then so what, we'll wait for the next trade.

This forum has gotten down the toilet....
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Gortat is low tier starting Center at best. Steve Nash can make alot of people look good.

Out of these deals, that is the more appealing one to me. I think more can be had if we are trading Smith(Man crush for Ellis). Dally wants money or play for a contender with money.Kings will give him the money, contenders with money will get him that.

Actually Smith (08-09 runner, not current) with Bogut would be solid but still have a hole at PF. Horford is playing "out of position" and playing 35mpg.
Only F/C producing more are Pau Gasol, Dwight, Griffin, Randolph, Stoudemire, Love and Aldridge.

Considering the rarity of centers the PER vs value dropoff is negligent. But still have a hole at PF.
David West could be had for Marvin money.
----
All these trades are leaving Hawks with little way out, Smith, Horford, Teague and Williams are young and should be the core.
Hawks jumped the shark with JJ but if they are stuck with JJ, they are in win now mode and these trade proposals are leaving Hawks with little way out to develop their players.

So ixnay on Horford for injury prone Bogut, Thabeet/Bogut for Marvin

no he is not. just my opinion though. Bogut is a Center. Harder position to fill, Horford is a PF, not so hard to fill.

Ruhiel.... there is no way on GOD's green earth you could get Bogut for Marvin. Hell you may not even be able to get R. Lopez for Marvin. We need a center more than we need Horford. We need a big that plays in the paint. so what Horford can hit the uncontested 15 footer. all our bigs play away from the basket. the other team bigs never get into foul trouble, they never get tired because they don't have to play defense. Bogut hurt his elbow, not his Knees. he will be alright. I can't believe that you can't see we need to get a Center in here more than we need Horford and Smith( both) we need to trade one, I really don't care which one. Unless we can get a center who can start via free agency like Tyson Chandler or trade Marvin for one Bargs or maybe Kaman (which I doubt). we will never be any better than what we are now without a center. I don't care if Teague turns into Chris Pual (which he never will).
