Was'nt Portland intersted in J Crawford ? I wonder if we could do a S&T with JC & Zaza for Oden.

Why in the world would you want to trade for a C who's played like 50 games in 3-4 years? That's why I don't blame players when they get huge/bad contracts. It's not JJ, M. Redd, Arenas, Oden, and all these other players that are at fault when they get paid to produce whatever they produce. It's the dumb GM's. STAY AWAY from G. Oden. You know what you get from him. It can't be any more clear after all these years.

No one’s suggesting we sign him to a max deal on a sign& trade, Greg himself knows he could never get his true value now with his health history and has stated a number of times he just needs to stay health to prove his worth. I’m saying were not going anywhere in the east (Miami, Chicago & Boston), so why not offer him 3 year 21mil. It sure would get me to renew my season tickets (I let them go after JJ’s 126 mil)
Also, the dude is only 23! And if he works out we could move Josh or Al for a PG or a wing somehere down the line. Hes the only guy I know if healty could surpass J Howard!

Geeman, i think you meant D. Howard, but yeah I would throw him 3 years for 21 mill with a team option in year 3. First year is more about recovery, then the 2nd would be where we see what he can truly do maybe. If the 3rd year is not looking promising, then we cut him. I think the gamble is worth it , seeing all he needs is to stay healthy and BOOM! our front court looks like an unstoppable force.

A good way to then clear some cap space out, would be to trade Marvin + Zaza + '11 2nd pick for Chase Budinger & Jordan Hill. Houston fans are kind of high on Zaza as a back up and think Marvin can be the guy he should be as a 3rd/4th option. We get a perimeter shooting SF in Chase and a nice back up PF/C in Hill, who both are under 24. The bench would be revamped, especially with a scoring shooting guard(i.e O.J Mayo). AHHHHHH!! what a dream.

Threads like these are where you have to be more realistic. Portland more money than the Hawks and they have WAY more incentive to see that Oden realizes his potential on their team.

Seriously, though, in order to get Oden, we'd have to overpay him (in cash) AND overpay POR (in trade assets).

It would require us to totally commit to Oden for 5 years. If he failed, we'd be stuck for the duration. Not saying we SHOULDN'T, you understand, I'm just saying we'd better be sure about him before we made the jump.

Tonights game was a perfect example of were we are. We have the parts to be a 6th-8th seed without
Joe and if we would of just let him walk we may have the resources to make a bold move for Greg Odem. But, we're stuck with the 6th highest payroll and " WILL NOT GET PASS THE FIRST ROUND"!

Hawks knew superteams would be teaming up as late as July 1 but they still overcommitted to one player. Sad thing is it those superteams (NYK & MIA) are each one star short but so are we!

I said it before the Joe signing was a complacent money grab, they were pessimistic about championship probability and could have experimented with different lineups last years trade deadline or even going into playoffs.
I think they were fully committed to Joe and making playoffs at any cost so they were going to resign him no matter what. Going forward its hard to see Hawks ever getting the final pieces.

Moving Marvin(who showed what he can do with the ball with touches;31 pts) and Zaza could really help us get that final piece especially if we wanted to try for Odens QO. There is no chance. Portland is already in the tax by taking on Gerald Wallace's salary, and won't have any money to go after someone like Jordan or Gasol. (Unless they go for the MLE) Oden is the only things they could spend their money on, and the FO has already said they would offer Oden the QO.

There is no chance. Portland is already in the tax by taking on Gerald Wallace's salary, and won't have any money to go after someone like Jordan or Gasol. Portland is barely in the tax this year ,and thats if they even are, at 70,422,226

Next year will put them at 61,024,092 and thats without Miller and Oden. of course they will add Millers dang near 8 million and then Oden will have a dang near 9 million dollar QO. I think I will just ask the POR board if they are willing to go about 8 or 9 million in the tax for Oden. I think the FO would offer him the QO if they can clear some space as well.
