Instead of Eddy Curry or the other twin, we sign Magnum Rolle. 6'11 from La Tech. Thats all i know and thats probably more than the rest of you know about Mr. Rolle.

I know he was born in the Bahamas. Not useful, I know, but it doesn't matter anyways. He's just there to wear a suit.

skinny PF/center size, displays perimeter skill and awareness at times.
P.S. I was gonna try for a Bond, James Bond joke, but "Rolle, a native of Freeport, Bahamas, said his mother named him after Tom Selleck's Magnum P.I. character."

Rolle, Magnum Rolle...meh y'd they sign him? certainly not for defense...

Looks like a summer league try out with high BB IQ, decent perimeter shooter, great defender and very explosive slasher. Maybe he becomes something worth keeping. The guy did block alot of shots throughout college and some NBA summer league games. Not saying alot, but maybe he molds into something for keepsake. I read some where that said he only got cut by the Pacers because of not having available roster spots.

Was also a 5 star recruit coming into college. Maybe he is a gem. I think he would be better than having Etan at least and might be a nice project guy.

I can only assume this is a lock in move to have the kid for next year. It's too late to impact this year. That or we needed a body for practice.

I this it is all of the above. but that doesn't mean he won't stick. it is not like we are stacked with quality bigs.

I like this signing, not that it matters that much since it's so low impact for this season. Still, nice that we didn't go out and sign, like, Chris Mihm or someone else because they're a "veteran."

I have followed MR for a bit and was hoping the Wiz would snag him, pretty nice pick-up for you-guys.

I have no illusions about Rolle but we HAVE to start investing in big men, of all price ranges, until we get bigger. In the '08 draft, what if we'd mortaged the farm to get a lottery pick and had chosen Brook Lopez? What if we had traded into the middle of that draft and gotten Roy Hibbert? What if we'd made a little trade in that same year to get a 2nd round pick to use on Omer Asik?

We have been pitiful in looking for a Center. ANY attempt by Sund to find one is music to my years.

Been sick of seeing the obvious hole and players (JJ, Horford) commenting on it and never seeing us do anything except sign a handful of vet mini guys. I would like to see us load up on a bunch of prospects there. Honestly, if even 1 of them gets even 10 mins/night, it'd be a success.

I'm not complaining about the move. I too feel we need to invest in player development. I was just trying to frame it as far as expectations. Since it is unlikely that a guy just signed will play any minutes under Drew, it must be an investment in the future or a practice body.

2 things that have been woefully underutilized under ASG management are the 2nd round of drafts and the D-League. Maybe those are slowly changing since we actually signed a second round pick and sent him to the D-League to get playing time. Makes me wonder if we'd sent Jordan Crawford to the D-League instead of having him in a suit most of the year would he have shown enough game to make him either too valuable to trade or at least worth more in a trade? Also I wonder if bringing in a player during the season that is striving to stay in the NBA might infuse the lineup with a little more effort and urgency.

I'm a native of the Bahamas and have known Magnum from High School. He was born in the Bahamas (Grand Bahama Island) in the city of Freeport. He went to LSU and played behind guys like Big Baby and Tyrus Thomas. He left to go to LA-Tech.

Magnum is a much improved jump shooter. From since I knew him he's been playing Center -- even at 6'4. See, in The Bahamas, the average height for guys playing basketball around that era was maybe 5'9. Therefore once a coach saw a kid standing at 6'' and up more than likely you played Center. So Magnum rarely got chances to work on any kind of perimeter game. They just dumped the ball into him and he'll use his height to score.

His body is much improved as well. He was a skinny kid and has bulked up a bit. Always had a knack for rebounding and blocking shots.

He's very quick and can gallop down the court real fast. Long arms and he's very active on defense. Scrappy defender; he can guard 3's 4's and 5's. Very good help defender.

Perezident, your write up describes how good a player the Pacers board made Rolle seem. I think the kid will be around a while and be something like a Robert Parrish guy(Maybe not the scorer) or Noah.

I heard he was a soccer player also. Kid gots to have amazing agility.

Thanks guys! He's following some very good Bahamians whom have played in the league. Micheal "Sweet Bells" Thompson and Rick Fox. In Fox's case, he denied being a Bahamian because of some family issues.. (I'm guessing he and his father had a riff) but since then he's embraced his roots and has been "home" couple of times.

And yea Magnum is exactly what you call "hard work paying off". I myself felt as if he should have stayed in LSU and stayed an extra year in school but thats just my opinion. I also forgot to mention he often over exerts his energy as he likes to leave it all out on the floor. He's very passionate about the game and loves to learn how to increase his chances of getting better.

I'm trying to remember if he actually played soccer..... If I had to guess, yeah he did but it was short lived.
