Trade Proposal

Post#1 » by Hawksfan » Thu May 19, 2011 9:31 pm

Ok, tell me what you think.

Hawks trade: Josh Smith, Jeff Teague, Zaza Pachulia, the Josh Childress trade exception, and draft picks to the Magic for Dwight Howard and Chris Duhon.

The Magic may be forced to trade Dwight Howard, and this may be the best deal they can get. That is, if LA decides to use their resources to pursue Chris Paul instead (which actually makes more sense). The Magic would also be unloading a bad contract in Chris Duhon, they would solve their point guard problems by getting Teague, they would be getting a legit star in Josh Smith, and Zaza would help them in the paint which they will need if they lose Howard (which seems like it will happen whether they want it to or not).

For Howard, he will be coming to his home town team and he will have a championship caliber supporting cast with Al Horford and Joe Johnson. I'm sure he would rather play with his friend Josh Smith, but this deal was the only way I could make the salaries work and make the deal make sense.

For Atlanta, obviously we would be one of the championship favorites because we would own the paint no matter who we play.

Then we could re-sign Jamal Crawford using the Early Bird rule and then re-sign everyone else to the minimum.

Larry Drew would be on the last year of his deal and he would have to deliver in order to earn an extension.

PF Horford / Powell / Rolle
SF Williams / Wilkins / Sy
C Howard / Collins / Armstrong
SG Johnson / Crawford / draft pick or minimum free agent
PG Hinrich / Duhon / draft pick or minimum free agent

I don't see Orlando preferring Smith to Horford. Also if they do decide to trade Howard then they are going to make sure one of Turkoglu or Arenas is part of the deal to get that contract off the books.

I think a better trade for both teams would be:

To ATL: Howard, Turkoglu

To ORL: Horford, Williams, Pachulia, Hinrich

Orlando get an all star to replace Howard, a backup center which they need, a SF to replace Turkoglu and a valuable expiring contact in Hinrich.

For Atlanta, it gets the big center that they have needed for ages, Turkoglu is still good enough to replace Williams production and with Hinrich departing, Teague gets the starting job full time which I think will be a win for the team. Zaza is no longer needed at backup C with Howard able to play big minutes and the team can also re-sign Jason Collins.

i think orlando would prefer smith to horford... lol, a frontcourt of bass and horford would be two guys chilling 15 feet away from the basket jacking up jumpers as neither can post up

I agree with you on them wanting it that way, but I'm not sure they can work it out. Let's say that Dwight decides to pull a Carmelo and says I'm leaving at the end of the year and it doesn't matter if I have to wait for free agency because I'll make it up advertising deals. Orlando won't have much power unless they can shop him to multiple teams. If he says LA or bust then what type of offer will you get? Will they take Arenas contract?

If Dwight doesn't resign in Orlando then likely he has a dream scenario in mind and will only extend with that team. If Atlanta isn't the dream destination then you'd have to be willing to risk that he walks on you to acquire him (make an offer without him signing an extension). The only thing at that point that I think sways him is a title. It'd be hard for him to jump ship with a chance to defend the title.

And the main thing most people forget, is that Dwight will want to play with Josh, so if we trade Josh to Orlando then that gives Dwight incentive to walk back to Orlando..It only makes sense..

I get the trade idea but I don't think Orlando will want to trade Dwight to Atlanta. I mean we have to take into consideration that both the Hawks and Magic are in the same division, I'm sure Orlando wouldn't want to see Dwight 4 times a year, especially when he's playing with a division rival.

lol marvin has negative trade value. No way they trade dwight for one good young player, a back up C, and a BAD contract. they wouldnt be able to rebuild for years with all those crap contracts on the books PLUS marvin. so al would basically be about a free agent by the time they all expire haha.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
