looking back at Trade Deadline

Post#1 » by ATL Boy » Sat May 21, 2011 6:18 pm

Remember the Trade Deadline? Back when we almost traded Jeff Teague and Picks for Ramon Sessions, and almost traded Josh for Nash. Sure we made a HUGE mistake giving away Jordan Crawford for Kirk Hinrich, but we did dodge a bullet by not trading Jeff Teague. Looking back, I find it really funny cause now we wouldn't even consider those trade.

When did we almost trade Josh for Nash?

I read a few articles from the written by the "experts" about how the Hawks should trade Josh for Nash.

In our defense, Jeff Teague wasn't being allowed on the court so it was hard to know that we shouldn't trade him. And if he was playing so well in practice that the front office knew not to trade him and he still was not getting any floor time then Larry Drew shouldn't be a coach.

Should trade and almost traded are two completely different things.

I did not remember if there was Teague in the deal, maybe CLE were asking for Teague and ATL did not accept it, or ATL offered him and CLE refused ?.

Any way, it's hard to give a good evaluation of the result of keeping Teague.
Not sure about the impact, but you can be sure that Sessions, with the same playing than Teague got in this second round, could have put easily the same kind of numbers, especially since he would have played nearly the same way, without any 3pts shot, and mainly attacking the rim.
Not as fast, but with more experience, the overall result could have been the same. Only the long term would have change, and at this point, even with this good series, it's hard to know if Teague is a better choice than Session. If he can keep this speed and defense, improve his 3tps shot,... sure it's a better choice.
