I posted this on the trades and transactions board.. just wanted some feed back from some Hawks fans.

Toronto trades: Jose Calderon, Bargnani, Barbosa, and 2011 1st
receives: Marvin Williams, Maggette, Gooden, Jennings

Milwaukee trades: Bout, Maggette, Gooden, Jennings
receives: Horford, Jose Calderon, Barbosa 2011 1st from Toronta 5th overall

Atlanta trades: Horford and Marvin Williams
receives: Bogut and Bargnani

Why for for Milwaukee. they save 29.5M in contracts and they would have two picks in the top 10. and maybe draft Kanter with the 5th pick and Kemba Walker or Alec Burks with their own pick. could have a line up like

Kemba/ Calderon
Salmone/ Barbosa
Delfino/ Mbah a Moute
Horford/ Ilyasova
Kanter/ Sanders

Why for Toronto they finally add some toughness they need and someone that wants to be a star and as the potential to become one in Jennings. the fans in Toronto are great all they need is a good team to root for. line up

Jennings/ Bayless
DeRozan/ Kleiza
Marvin Williams/ Maggette
Amir/ Gooden
Ed Davis/ Alabi

why for the Hawks, they get the center they have been needing. they also get another scorer in Bargs. line up

Teague/ kirk
JJ/
Smith/
Bargs/
Bogut/ Zaza

Hawks fill out the rest of roster in Free agentcy but starting five is solid

i like it for the Hawks, but Smith has to lose some lbs to play the SF more ala Shawn Marion. He has to beat ppl up and down the floor more.

I like this one. And I usually don't like trades getting Bargs but this works because Smoove could guard the better forward at either position and Bogut can hold his own with whoever.

Only team I don't know would do it is Toronto... but maybe they would

I've been noticing you saying this quite often. You DO know that Smith added the weight between his 1st and 2nd seasons? It's not a recent thing. And that he chose to do it himself?

He was a poor defender of SFs back then and saw PF as a much more viable opportunity for him. Up till this year, I agreed with him. I've been amazed to see him - now - able to defend the 3. Before this year, I'd have told you he just couldn't do it.

He was drafted in 2004 at 221. He didn't put on 24 pounds over 2 years. As recent as 2009 he was 235 as far a I can tell he played 245 in 2008 and he said the weight came off just by doing 2 a days.
Needless to say its unnatural weight. The older he gets the more wear and tear the bulk will give him. He's already had knee injuries this season and it showed in the playoffs.
But as far as reasoning he was drafted as a small forward. 2004-05, he was a rookie and by the time the season ended he was starting.
But who were the 4 and 5?
last game Al Harrington at the 4 Obinna Ekezie started at the 5 and played only 8 minutes, with Tom Gugliotta, Jason Collier (r.i.p.), and Predrag Drobnjak. Yeah, who?
Tyronn Lue, Tony Delk in the backcourt. Team won 13 games.

Next season (2005-2006) they got 1 upgrade in Joe Johnson as a PG-SG and the last game saw
Joe Johnson/Josh Childress/Josh Smith/Al Harrington/Zaza Pachulia.
JJ at point guard. With so many swingmen already on the roster GM Billy Knight also drafted the man who would become known as "MArvelous" Marvin Williams.

Add Shelden Williams (#5 draft pick) at power forward next to Zaza and you'll see why Mike Woodson had to put Josh and Horford to defend the blocks.
Currently its either Marvin Williams or Jason Collins that coach has to choose between

TEAM DEFENSE
This is the thing about tall 3s.
Just like Carmelo or Thaddeus Young or Josh Smith, Rudy Gay etc. not many small forwards there size are known for being able to move laterally.
It all depends on who you have on the floor with you. Young had Elton Brand and until this season Dalembert providing their size and length on defense. Gay had to play some 4 until they got Milicic and Pau Gasol and Zach Randolph, Darell Arthur and even more centers like Marc Gasol/Haddaddi.
Carmelo had Camby, Kenyon Martin, Chris Anderson and Nene covering for him under the basket.
Josh had Shelden Williams and Zaza Pachulia at the 4 and 5. As soon as Horford was drafted they benched Shelden and went small . PHX had set the trend of 1 in 4 out.

Hawks have never had a good supply of size and talent down low and have gotten away with Josh under the basket because he's a good mistake eraser.

DENVER -- Carmelo Anthony doesn't mind the trade rumors. He does mind playing power forward.
Nevertheless, Anthony, Denver's starting small forward, is resigned to having to slide over and battle big men more often with Nuggets power forwards Kenyon Martin and Chris Andersen out with knee injuries to start the season.

"I try to stay away from that position as much as possible,'' Anthony said after practice Wednesday. "I like to save my body. But, if that's what it comes down to, I'll have to play some. We'll make it work. I'm pretty sure right now George (Karl, the Nuggets' coach) got a trick up his sleeve, when the games get tight, to put me at the power-forward position.''

"That's easy,'' Anthony said of playing. "This is easy right here. I know it's my task at hand to win basketball games, (to try) to win the championship ... I'm too focused in on this season to let rumors or anything like that come in and take over. I'm focused on playing basketball and doing what's right for me and this team.''

If it means playing power forward, so be it.
"I can play it,'' Anthony said. "I enjoy that position. But, if I have my choice, I wouldn't.''

There will be less of a choice to start the season. Karl said Tuesday he believes Andersen will be back by Nov. 1 and Martin by Dec. 1.
Regardless of where he's playing, Anthony knows that, with all the big men hurting, he better get some rebounds. Anthony's career-high season average is 7.4, with a career average of 6.2. He said he's "trying'' to average 10.0 this season.
"I got to really focus in on rebounding a little bit more ... because we're shorthanded,'' said Anthony, averaging 7.3 rebounds in the preseason over just 27.8 minutes. "That's one of my main focuses coming into the season to up my rebounding.''
