1) Al under performed (maybe due to injury) in spite of getting to play primarily at his preferred position of PF in the playoffs.
2) The physicality of the playoffs neutralized Jamal Crawford. Actually that's too nice, it made him a negative to have on the floor. (Red flag to the thought of resigning him).
3) Joe Johnson didn't respond well to not having full control of the ball all the time. This might be due to the fact that he never got a chance to play with Teague all year because of lack of coaching vision and faith. So when Teague was playing well Joe kind of disappeared and almost vice versa.
4) Marvin Williams played his way out of the rotation.
5) The team as a whole lost the 4th quarters against the Bulls and Larry Drew hit the wall.
1) At this point of the year everyone has injuries. Smith, Collins, JJ, Lebron, Wade, Amare, Garnett, etc.
Al has a large sample size of not being the 6'10 scoring machine people expected.
Outside of crab dribbling and trying to jump high and hook shot the ball Al, still has no post game to speak of as a 4.
He was able to defend the 4 like he wanted too but Collins did not force Noah to guard him and so Boozer guarded collins and Gibson and Noah's length bothered Al on the perimeter.
Come playoffs We already have the starting 1,2,3 spots figured out in Teague and Hinrich at PG
Joe and Marvin are big shooting guards who draw fouls and catch and shoot.
Josh and Malcolm Thomas are big 3s who can score in transition and defend-attack LBJ/Deng etc.
Big Men= Foundation
Horford+ {Hilton}
{Collins} + Pachulia
This is not a contending core of big men. If Horford were Nowitzki he could not carry Collins. We wont get 2 upgrades and a 16ppg replacement for Joe (sgs: Wade) or Josh (sfs: Lebron,Deng).
my proposition was:
Motiejunas + Hill
Hasheem + Pachulia
and yes there is precedence for winning with those type of players. Longley, Perkins at C. Jordan Hill and Pachulia are above average backups in WS/48.
Quarter Minute Splits
Teague (9) + Hinrich (3)
Johnson (9) + Williams (3)
Smith (9) + Thomas (3)
Motiejunas (9) + Hill (3)
Thabeet (6) + Pachulia (6)
Total Minute Splits
Teague (36) + Hinrich (12)
Johnson (36) + Williams (12)
Smith (36) + Thomas (12)
Motiejunas (36) + Hill (12)
Thabeet (24) + Pachulia (24)
PPG Projections in 2 'centers' lineup (using per36)
Teague (16) + Hinrich (4)
Johnson (18) + Williams (4)
Smith (17) + Thomas (4)
Motiejunas (16) + Hill (4)
Thabeet (5) + Pachulia (6)
(71) + (22) = 93ppg
2011 playoff opponents ppg vs mostly Jason Collins-Pachulia-Horford lineups: 90.3 ppg
we go big slow the game up and go inside out.
No more iso Joe. Hinrich runs the 2nd team when Teague sits and mentors Jeff. Jeff draws and kicks and scores.
Teague, Smith, Donatas, Johnson are all big and can rebound push and make a play.
