Pros and cons discussion
Now first off I want to say Coach makes Williams guard 2s and 3s regardless.
Secondly I think we can all agree that he can post up, drive and shoot etc.
Problem is we don't maximize our advantages, which is in the painted area. Al can't score in the painted area and has worked on his range but we need those 3 point plays and fouls.
Marvin as a backup 2 gives us some of that, Smith gives us some of that, Joe is an excellent Jason Terry type with post game to draw fouls and potentially Teague can become a better 3 point shooter, pick and roll guard and facilitator next season.
Now to play Marvin as a 2 you need to force that matchup as in giving no alternatives for defenders to guard.
You do this by putting a big Small Forward next to Joe/Marvin.
Marvin does not have an 'advanced' ability to handle the ball but he can do some good things.
- His advanced numbers show he is a pure shooter more than even I admittedly, have given him credit for.
- But more surprisingly is how easily he gets the whistle.
in the {badly edited} video we'll see some of Williams strengths that help him as a 2.
- long arms
- shooting over starter caliber 2s
- steals in passing lane
- 2 big for tweeners, gets the whistle
- 55% true shooter
...........
We know Williams can score 20 easily by doing this with many touches.
If you look across the NBA landscape starting off with Joe Johnson at 6'8 240 and then Williams with more power at 6'8 245 coming off the bench is a solid 1-2 punch.
At the end of vid you'll see Marv beat a 'quicker' 2 guard off the dribble by using the same pin down screen play the Boston Celtics run.
Smith at 6'8 setting a screen for Marv at 6'8 is a bit ridiculous and with 7'0 KG down low he rejects the shot.
and then goes over Smith and uses his 7'6 reach to shoot an easy fadeaway over Smith.

This is what we should be going for Smith posting up Pierce. Setting cross screens and our 7 foot bigs passing into Marvin and Josh Smith posting up Ray Allen or Barea.
In fact we may have won if we put Marvin in for Teague and forced Derrick Rose to defend Joe or Marvin.
