I can't see Charlotte giving up a 1st and Diop for Marvin.

I can't see us giving up a 1st to get rid of Marvin, especially when it is Diaw coming back.

I thought about that trade for Diop except it was for the 19 this year..

Trade 1: The reason for giving up a pick with Diop is since Marvin has more upside. Diop is more of a stiff at this point and has been dealing with injuries that are going to make it more difficult on his body. With Marvin there's a chance he exercises his player option but they get more production out of him compared to Diop.

Trade 2: Boris Diaw puts up similar numbers as Marvin Williams and plays a much bigger role on his team. The first makes it more appealing to Charlotte. Moving Marvin to unload the $8,837,500 that's owed to him after next season and the roughly $17 million total if he exercises his player option. Boris would provide us with depth at the 3, 4 and 5.

we're trying to win now. We'll keep Marvin at the 2,

Diop's 'nagging' injuries have caused him to miss entire seasons.

Boris Diaw's similar #s!!!!
WS/48 USG
- 2778 minutes Boris 28yo 0.082 16.8
- 1865 minutes Marvin Gaye 24yo .551 17.2

And 28yo Boris Diaw can't play shooting guard and post up JJ Barea. Go Marvin! ;)

Diaw comes into training camp out of shape every year scared of his own potential. NO thanks.

I'd do the 2nd one.

As a Charlotte fan, I wouldn't touch either trade. Marvin would take away a roster spot from a younger guy that could be developed (think 2012 draft). We also have Dante Cunningham with the QO and Maggette is under contract until 2013. If we're bundling a first with Diop, it would only be for an expiring or smaller contract, not a larger one like Marvin's.

The only player that I really like on the ATL roster is Josh Smith, whom I understand has been on the block. We have the cap space to take his contract (certainly when we would send players your way) and it would allow you guys to resign Jamal Crawford and possibly add a legit center (Chandler, Dalembert, perhaps a risk on Oden).

Corey Maggette is going to be the Bobcats starting 3 next season according to Paul Silas. That puts an end to this idea.

Yea, Maggette has it locked unless he gets hurt. I would be interested in Marvin as a backup if it wasn't for the huge contract; local product and decent at what he does on the court.

Dumping Smith to Charlotte wouldn't work for several reason:
1. The lack of good enough players coming back to Atlanta. Atlanta wouldn't want to salary dump Josh Smith unless good value was coming back.
2. I also would doubt Atlanta would trade Smith to a division rival. Unless Atlanta was getting a steal, then it doesn't make sense.
3. Trading Smith wouldn't allow the Hawks to bring in one of those centers for the cost. They won't be under the cap and all of those guys will need more than the MLE.
