Marreese Speights
looks like he maybe on the block. what would it take from atlanta to get him? and would he help us out?
would something like Marvin Williams and 2012 2nd round pick for Marreese Speights and Andres Nocioni
line up
teague/Kirk
JJ/ Kirk
Smoove/ Nocioni
Horford/ Rolle
Speights/ Zaza
wasn't Speights and Horford team mates at FLA?

I have always liked Marrese. I do not know where his problems with 76ers coach is, but he is only 23, he is 6-10 and can play center solidly because he is wide, has long arms. Also he does not mind getting a few touches. He can do some dirty work, get offensive rebounds.
But he would be no problem again for Howard to get us down. Collins would be better at that again.
But Marvin and pick for Nocioni and Marrese would be ok for me. Anything we can get for Marvin would be an advantage.

I'd rather pack Marvin's and Smoove's a$$eS and trade'em for Iggy, Nocioni and Speights.

Add a first of second pick if needed.
Kirk / Teague
Iguodala / JJ
JJ / Nocioni / Sy
Horford / Kito / Rolle
Zaza / Speights / Horford

that is not bad but I don't think that Iggy would start at the 2 I think JJ would still be the two with this line up. and Iggy would start at the 3. I also think that Speights would beat out Zaza for the starting 5

fail. Speights is a scoring Power Forward. Reminds of Amare. Rookie year played with Dalembert and at 16mpg. PT disappeared when Brand came back iirc.
Put up All Star type WS/48 efficiency. Power Forward and when I said I wanted depth a guy like Marreese Speights (Jordan Hill) is what I wanted.
A high volume scorer who can capitalize on backups and be a starter w/o dropping a step just by hustle and athleticism.
“Offense is why coaches love to have 76ers center Marreese Speights on the basketball court. His defense is what usually necessitates his removal from the floor.
The third-year 6-10 Florida product knows the concerns about his ability to defend and he is trying (emphasis on trying) to get better at not allowing the other team to score – though it is still a work in progress.
“He is in better shape and he is a kid that wants to please and do well,” head coach Doug Collins said “He has a tendency when he gets tired that bad habits come back. He starts standing up on defense and not being in the right spots. The thing that was encouraging me today was he was the best player in the last 5 minutes after we’d been through a 2-hour practice. That’s what was encouraging to me. Because normally that’s when he would have broken down either tired physically or mentally. And today he came down the floor and he had four straight scores.”

Re: Marreese Speights
What about this deal. Speights, Hawes, & Tyler Honeycutt to the Hawks; Kaman to Philly; Lou Williams to Sacto; & Marvin and Zaza to LA.
Saves us a bit of cash to re-up Crawford with. Allows us to use the MLE on pryzbilla & Dequan Cook. Hawes can become a solid starter, Speights can give us needed offense off the bench & depth at the 4, and Honeycutt was a top 20 talent drafted in the 2nd round. Can be another Landry Fields with more athleticism and better defender. Steal of the draft imo.

Crawford needs to walk. He and a 30 year old Joe cannot coexist on this team they do the same things.
Zaza's game translates to the postseason better and Landry Fields is 30 lbs heavier and has more wingspan than Honeycutt.
Honeycutt has Joe's height to wingspan ratio and even worse weight.strength, Yikes, he will be a turnstyle on defense.

+1, I wish Rick Sund read some of these trade ideas, good trade offer.

Yeah, Crawford does similar things like Joe, but we still don't have offense off the bench. Crawford can be just fine as the 6th man. His clutch ability is something you don't want to be on the opposing end of neither. I continue to say that Chicago is one scoring 2 guard away from winning championships like they did in the 90's.
Pryzbilla can do just as much as Zaza, including block shots and we could sign him for cheaper. You really overvalue measures. Your evaluation on how somebody will perform is absurd. I guess you would have voted that Spudd Webb would have never won the dunk contest because he is 5'7...

Re: Marreese Speights
Kerry Eggers of the Portland Tribune reports that Portland Trail Blazers center Joel Przybilla says retirement is on the table this summer.
---------------------
"Retirement is a possibility," says Przybilla, 31. "My wife (Noelle) and I have talked about it a lot."
"If there’s no lockout or it doesn’t last long, and I’m feeling right, we’ll see what the options are," Przybilla says. "A team has to want me first.
"I’ve saved my money. I’d love to play more, but I’ve been in this league 11 years, a lot longer than I thought I’d be. Hopefully I have some years left in me, but you never know."
---------------------
Przybilla talked about not playing at 100% and hoping to make it through this season without injury last week."
and then he got injured.
..............
"Tyler Honeycutt of UCLA did not impress many folks with his athletic testing. Honeycutt put up 0 – yes, 0 – bench press reps, despite not having a particularly long wingspan. He had trouble lifting 185 pounds because that’s essentially his body weight – despite measuring over 6’8″ in shoes, Honeycutt weighs a mere 187 pounds. He’s a talented player, and he proved that much in college, but he will need to add to his frame to be an impact player in the always-physical NBA."
"Tyler Honeycutt ranks poorly from a statistical perspective, as his 0.822 PPP overall ranks dead last among wings. His 47.7% aFG% and his 20.2% TO% both rank second to last, and his 9.7% free throw rate ranks fourth from last."
..........
Crawford can't d up, and if his shot is off is a complete non factor. He'll be 32 next season and to date has only had One Season of above 9% wins shared.
He is a 32 yo boom or bust that we can post up on the other end.
Why in the world would the Bulls take Crawford when they can have JR Smith?
I'm looking at the DEF Wins Shared and Crawford has {10.2} TOTAL Defensive Wins in 24201 minutes and 752 games.
OJ Mayo has 5.1 in 3 years and plays for the Grizzlies. Lol at Boozer and Crawford on one team!
I wonder what Bulls fans think of this. Better to ask b4 the Hawks pull another Joe Johnson!

You do realize win share is only a stat that doesn't have real meaning right?!
Nobody said overpay for Crawford, but anyway, I was only saying that Crawford will be in the sights of Bulls management despite what bulls fans say. Bulls arent the only team eyeing Smith either, though he may just sign with them.
That 32 year old you speak of, surely did boom for us, despite his defensive liabilities.

No offense, guys, but y'all might want to consider that we have 2 big men - and only 2. If we trade Smith or Horford, we have to get a big man in return. Not only that but we have to get a big man who is as talented as Smith or Horford.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Re: Marreese Speights
If he goes to the Bulls they have a weak defender who will take shots from Rose.
In the last 2 years combined our offense was on pace to score 109.5 points (great) per 100 possessions and give up 111 points (terrible).
You do realize Jamal took 5 3 Point Shots a game and grabbed less rebounds than Mike Bibby, who was traded midseason?
Good riddance, we need to take on Josh's defensive personality like the Mavs took on Kidd's and Chandler's. We need to take on the Inside first post play and athleticism that the Lakers always have and get rid of players that don't fit that style.
We're trying to become the Golden State Warriors or Orlando Magic without the fan support. You cant rely on one player or big name guy to go out and play 40 minutes a game and dominate the entire other team.
Jamal is easily replaced and I HOPE the Bulls overpay for him and have to deal with him and Boozer making offense Easy for the Hawks.

Rose needs shots taken away from. Good grief, he averaged 27 against us. That's the point of them getting a 2 guard. Points per 100 possessions is pointless. Nobody gets 100 possessions in a game. Never said crawford would be hard to replace, hell all we need is a 3 point shooter. If you can re-sign him at a good rate, i think you do it.

" Points per 100 possessions is pointless. Nobody gets 100 possessions in a game."

It's a defensive efficiency number the championship threshold for a team is 102 points per possesion.
Our team Efficiency on defense is 107.
We only have one player at the championship threshold (guess who). I could care less if Rose got 27 and Crawford got 20 as long as nobody else gets any points and we outscore them.
But that won't happen as long as we have Al Horford being untouchable and building around trying to get into jump shooting matches with teams

If we give up 95 points per game, then our defense has to be some kind of good. How can you assume 102 is the threshold for championship defense?!
Can't out score nobody without enough firepower. I think Chicago just proved that. I think they were touted as having the best defense in the league, but yet they didn't have firepower to out score Miami.
We had a 102 defensive efficiency in the playoffs BTW..

The Dallas Mavericks are the 15th champion in the past 16 years to have a defense ranked in the league's top eight.
Can't out score nobody without enough firepower. I think Chicago just proved that.
I think Chicago proved that Joakim Noah is a Tweener and would never have done that to any power forward with size length and athleticism.
I think they were touted as having the best defense in the league, but yet they didn't have firepower to out score Miami.
Chicago was #1,Miami #5. Chicago and Miami are out of our league as long as we start Jason Collins and Al Horford as a front line.
Atlanta #15. our perimeter defense is bad enough with Joe.
Al allows layup trains to come through the paint and is no KG or Pau Gasol. His (lack of) size shows on defense.
http://hoopdata.com/blogengine/post/201 ... Hawks.aspx
Hawks have too much "firepower" (gunners) and they all overlap and become duds. Marvin, Joe, Jamal. They give up points on one end and then walk it up the court for isos.
The only reason Hawks are a near "contender" is Smith.
Horford is a terrible defender as far as difference making centers go and his Power Forward defense would be considered pretty good except for the fact he can't score on the other end
The Hawks are the 3rd slowest team in the league as far as # of possessions.
I said it before if we really want the Detroit Model we retool the frontcourt starting with trading Al and then go for regaining 2010 Smith.
Teague won't need a jack of all trades master of none without a post game like Al. He looks for his jump shot on offense because he can't beat guys off the dribble.
He can get rebounds and play a lot of minutes but thats quantity over quality minutes.
With a sorry bench an undersized Al who can't score in the halfcourt without having picks set and spoonfeeding him AND aging guards defensively, we will always be just outside looking in on the top shelf.
That is until next year when everyone's traded and we relocate.

Re: Marreese Speights
Speaking of those Dallas Mavericks you refer to, they gave up 96 ppg and had a 105 defensive rating. So to me you seem to be contradicting yourself and trying to cover up by showing 2 dominant Spurs teams with very good defenses did and not showing what other NBA champs have done. The 2 years LA won back to back, they averaged 104.2 defensive rating and gave up 98 ppg.
It's obvious we don't have enough firepower and lack it it in the front court, which is why I agree we should move Horford while the League is still high on him. Chicago only had Deng & Rose and a beat up Boozer, that's why it didn't take but 90 points to beat Chicago.

The Marvin and 2012 2nd for Speights and Nocioni would be a good trade because we need depth and we have multiple 2nd round picks in 2012.
