REALISTIC?????

is this a realistic off season for Atlanta? and if so, would the hawks be better?

trade Horford and Williams for Pau Gasol and 2012 1st round pick. then sign four free agents two vets and two rookies. one of either Grant Hill, Tayshaun, Al Thornton, Josh Howard, or Damien Wilkins and one of Chuck Hayes, Josh McRoberts, Leon Powe, Carl Landry, or Kwame Brown.

for me I think we could pull off this trade and still get Grant Hill and Kwame Brown. line up could look something like this

Teague/ Kirk
JJ/ Kirk
Smoove/ Hill
Gasol/ Hayes
Kwame/ ZaZa
or
Teague/ Kirk
JJ/ Kirk
Hill/ Smoove
Smoove/ McRoberts
Gasol/ Kwame

We're close to the LT and far from being under the salary cap. How can we sign 2 veteran FAs? Are you expecting that they'd agree to split the MLE?

When the ASG said they'd go over the LT for a good player, I don't think they meant bench players.

vets sign to teams for the league min all the time if they believe that they have a shot at a play off run with said team. now chuck hayes may not give us a discount, but I believe someone like Grant Hill would. and how much will Kwame get in the open market? so yes I do believe we could sign two players.

Check my trade out on trade board
http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1125873

Atl out: Horford, Williams, Hinrich
Atl in: Gasol, Bass, Blake, Ebanks

Your team salary stays pretty much the same. Bass is in the same tier as mcroberts/hayes/leon powe. Ebanks is cheap and would fill out your roster. Then with MLE you focus on signing starting SF/SG plus vet big man. Maybe TMAC/Kwame? Prince/Kwame?

Teague/Blake
JJ/Tmac
Tmac/Ebanks
Smoove/Bass
Gasol/Kwame/Zaza

Is it realistic? No.

The chance those guys take such a serious paycut to come to Atlanta is not realistic. Thornton and Howard should command more than we could possibly give them by splitting up the MLE, same with hayes, Powe,, Landry, and McRoberts. Kwame would be cheap, but that is because no one else would want him. Wilkins likely would be brought on as a minimum contract pretty easily. I don't see Hill or prince comming to Atlanta when they have a likely shot at a title in better cities.

One of either Grant Hill, Tayshaun, Al Thornton, Josh Howard, or Damien Wilkins and one of Chuck Hayes, Josh McRoberts, Leon Powe, Carl Landry, or Kwame Brown.

There is huge disagreement between us about Horford/Gasol. Some feel Gasol is better now and we should pull the trigger now and try and push for a title with Gasol for the next 2-3 years, other feel he isn't a true center and doesn't solve the 2 PF issue, plus Horford is cheaper, younger, and has potential. I am more in the latter camp. If the lakers want to give us Bynum for Horford or Bynum for Smith, I am all for it.

I would stick with Horford because of the age factor and $.

How many teams would have a better shot at the title than Atlanta? Lakers, Miami, Dallas, maybe Boston. that is about it. we are in the next wave. to add Miami and Boston doesn't need prince or Hill. so that leaves Dallas and the Lakers ( if the Lakers get rid of Metta World Peace) then they would be in the running for for their services. but I feel that if we get someone like Gasol we would be better than Boston and Chicago and would be battling Miami for the number one spot in the east. if we got Gasol and the rest of the free agents I am talking about.

One of either Grant Hill, Tayshaun, Al Thornton, Josh Howard, or Damien Wilkins and one of Chuck Hayes, Josh McRoberts, Leon Powe, Carl Landry, or Kwame Brown.

ok I will accept that we are in disagreement with Horford/Gasol debate, but as far as Gasol not being a true center. he is more of a center than Horford and he was the starting center for the Lakers when they won their two back to back rings. moreover that is why I am having us get Kwame. we could have packages when Kwame starts center and Gasol starts at PF. all Kwame would be needed for is defense. Kwame is a big athletic body and he is miles better than Zaza on the defensive end. Hell on the offensive end too.

so I think it is very realistic that we should be able to get one of Hill, Prince, or even T- mac to play 25 to 30 minutes for us at SF and still be able to get one of Josh McRoberts, Leon Powe, or Carl Landry (maybe not Hayes). then we could still get undrafted free agents to fill out the roster. David Lighty (but I believe he has already sign with a team overseas), Scotty Hopson, Greg Smith, Demetri McCamey, and Malcom Thomas just to name a few.

P.S. but I would not trade Horford or Smoove for Bynum. he is just to big of a risk health wise.

now with these moves our front court would look like PF/C Gasol, PF/C Rolle, PF/C Benson, C Kwame, C Zaza, C Greg Smith, PF Powe, F Smoove and our back court would be PG Teague, G Kirk, G JJ, G/SF Tmac or Hill or Prince, SG Scotty Hopson, G Pape Sy. that is 14 players we could let Pape Sy, Greg Smith, and Scotty Hopson or David Lighty fight it out for the last spot and keep it at 13.

that is a deep and complete team. I feel so anyway.

yes Kwame. he is better than Zaza. and I like Zaza. Kwame would just provide what Jason Collins provided for us, he can just do a better job of that.

I am a Horford fan too. but he will never be as good as Gasol on the Offensive side of the ball. and he will never be able to defend centers. Gasol can.

So he's never be as good as Gasol at all, huh?

I mean, being worse offensively AND defensively means Horford's a grossly inferior player.

Grumble, grumble.... "win shares" .... grumble ... "athleticism" ... grumble ... "youth"... "heart" .... "growth"...

Gasol is very similar. Its just he can post up and finish in the paint. He can be a volume shooter if needed.

Horford cannot, but you cant trade Horford for 1 big man, take on bad contracts and age. Its a terrible window to win the title and some of the players are toxic with no room for growth.

Horford's growth is done however. He's a 26yo F-C next year. Unless you get Kobe or Kidd in here his offense utility has peaked.

Gasol is 100 times more skillful on the offensive end than Horford.

Horford is more athletic, and all around better defensively. but Gasol is 7 feet and can and does defends centers better.

you would be trading Horford for a true 7 footer who is superior in the low post in the offensive and defensive. plus we would be getting a 1st round pick in the 2012 draft. that would give us two picks in this draft. that is potential to get two really good players in this extremely deep draft or move those two picks to move up in this draft or get Chris Paul or Dwight Howard or someone that could be atlanta's supperstar.

this season I would want the roster to look something like this

Teague/ Kirk
JJ/ Kirk
Smoove/ Hill
Gasol/ Powe
Kwame/ ZaZa

now which roster do you think is better

Teague/ Kirk
JJ/ Kirk
Marvin/ Wilkens
Smoove/ Rolle
Horford/ Zaza

or the one I want

Team 1 I guess but once you get Gasol you're done trading. He's unflippable, Very few will trade for his contract as he has no upside so you know you're getting an instant contributor but he's over 30 and with big $$.
That team is almost as top heavy as this current team. Grant Hill is 38 years old and only as good as how many shots he takes. Recipe for failure.

Gasol has three years left on is deal. that would be our window with that team.... I feel that with this team we could contend. isn't that what it is all about? are do you want to forever stay young and only be a playoff team? I mean seriously the hawks have did the whole rebuild thing and have been one of the youngest team for the last 6 years..... it is time to get some vets in hear and make a serious run at it. we are getting a draft pick as well. that would be two first round picks in the 2012 draft. those and Benson, Rolle, Teague, and maybe Pape Sy would be our future.
