We could offer Zaza and Hinrich, saving MEM major cash. It seems that's important to them.
We could offer Joe and Zaza for Gasol (SNT) and Mayo - they've been rumored to be looking to trade him, also.
We probably would have to figure on a SNT for Gasol with him getting $10 - 12 million in salary.

They REALLY wanted Josh Smith awhile back ... of course, they'd have to play Zach Randolph at Center if they did that. But Randolph's defensive failings at Center would be covered by Smith's shot blocking, so it could be interesting.

I'd do any one of those trades, but I don't think it'd happen. They ARE an up and coming playoff team.

But if Bill Ingram is not wrong, MEM is seriously considering trading the guy.

Keep in mind that people said the exact same stuff about us and Josh Smith, so I find it hard to believe.

Marc Gasol is not going anywhere. They don't have a guy that can play center for them. He is going to get resigned. Otherwise it would be a huge step back for the Memphis organization. And why wouldn't Marc want to stay with the Grizz. They are an up and coming team. I can understand if he wants to win now... but the Rockets aren't nearly as good as the Grizz.

He is a restricted free agent and he will definitely get signed by the Grizz.

That used to be the case but then you notice that they recently did these moves:

Rudy Gay max 5 years 82 million

Zach Randolph 4 years 66 million

Mike Conley 5 years 40 million

It's clear that they would pay Marc whatever he desires or commands but only if he wants to be a Grizzly. That pretty much means they don't want savings for him they want talent.

Doubt Joe is the type of talent they want especially with a younger max wing already on the roster and under current cap rules it would be illegal to attach Mayo and then Marc's contract immediately becomes BYC therefore making what they can take back in salary basically half of what he's making.

Because of BYC what we'd need is something more along the lines of Lopez to Memphis, Marc to ATL and Josh to NJ to get the salary and wants and needs just right.

Well he's still a possibility it's just that we have to get much much more creative with trade ideas and involve multiple teams.

Maybe they just want to have lots of teams making offers to Gasol which would set his value instead of them negotiating with him, and what's best than telling everywhere they are not sure that he wants to play with MEM.

It would be a strange move to trade Gasol, because they have a promising team, and they did fantastic playoffs (on the verge to play in WCF with Randolph and Gasol who would have been hard to guard for DAL) without Gay, so if one has to be traded, it's Gay. They could receive less for Gay than for Gasol, but it would make more sense.

So IMO, they are trying to let other teams set the price of Gasol, or they are ready to trade Gasol but if they can dump Gay in the same move.
They would need a decent C, and no PF in return. If Randolph is not in the deal, they can't want Josh unless they want to play him at SF, so Gay would go.
We could also think about a sign-&-trade with Crawford, even if it''s double sign-&-trade (it happens sometimes, like Turkoglu to TOR with Marion to DAL)

OT, but why does everybody get the assumption that Memphis was a better team without Gay?! Had they had Gay in the Playoffs, they might have been NBA champs right now.

I think a lot of of those opinions are driven by Battier's play. He was a great glue-guy and defender, especially taking on the other team's top guy.

But he lacks the offensive power of Gay. Memphis pretty much loss because they lacked fire power on the wing..

It was a premature diagnosis of the "Patrick Ewing Effect" where a team performs better without their high usage "best" player. People think of Gay as a chucker and that he would have taken opportunities away from their frontcourt which happened to of been the strength of their playoff run. In reality, or at least IMO, his loss is more akin to the Lakers without Bynum. They went from getting punked by the Celtics with only Pau and Odom to punking Dwight and then getting revenge against the Celtics with Bynum.

Rudy's defense, athleticism, scoring and especially his new found shooting stroke would have definitely been a positive over the one dimensional Allen who was really the one taking on the other team's top wings and the quite literally on his last legs Shane. Battier benefited Memphis more as a mascot due to his high character, leadership qualities and ties to the city as one of the original Memphis Grizzlies than anything he did on the court and then he benefited the front office as an expiring.

I would definitely send Hinrich, Zaza, a 2nd and a 1st for Marc Gasol.
