if we keep Smoove and Big Al

Post#1 » by myrak433 » Tue Sep 13, 2011 9:55 pm

if we cannot find a partner to take Marvin. could we just get some bigs via free agents? here are a few I think we may have a shot at. we could get two of Yi Jianlian, Leon Powe, Melvin Ely, Kwame Brown, Kurt Thomas, and one of Troy Murphy, Chuck Hayes, or Carl Landry.

Me I would like to get Kurt Thomas, Kwame Brown, and Troy Murphy.

Teague/ Kirk
JJ/ Kirk
Smith/ Marvin
Horford/ Thomas
Murphy/ Brown

Keith Benson
Pape Sy
Rolle

Half those guys we have no shot at for different reasons (ie franchise distaste) unless we overpay.

the only guys we may have to over pay for would be Troy Murphy, Chuck Hayes, or Carl Landry. the rest could be had cheap.

Murphy is old, no upside especially defensively
Landry can't defend or rebound at all vs PFs, let alone Cs

Hayes can lockdown 1 on 1, but loses rebounds, help defense etc because of his length and has no upside.

And even worse he does nothing to spread our offense. Yet Hayes is the best of the bunch.

you get what you pay for....except when you don't (see. Joe Johnson, Marvin, Bibby)

you keep talking about upside. we are not rebuilding. we are in win now mode. all these players are better than what we currently have on our bench. and Kwame would be our best center defensively hands down.

ask yourself this. which is better?

Teague/ Kirk
JJ/ Kirk
Smith/ Marvin
Horford/ Thomas
Murphy/ Brown

or

Teague/ Kirk
JJ/ kirk
Marvin/ Sy
Smith/ Rolle
Horford/ Benson.

I know you have your heart set on

Teague/ Kirk
JJ/ Marvin
Smith/ Malcom Thomas
Donatas/ Hill
Thabeet/ Zaza

but it isn't going to happen. besides that team would sux!!!!! this isn't a trade thread. I am only wanting to know if some hawks fans would think this would make atlanta better, if where not able to make anytrades.

We get Kurt Thomas (?) Troy Murphy and Kwame Brown for how much?
I hope you didnt put Malcolm "Thomas" as an undersized bench PF.

All but a few championship teams make a big trade down the line.

Josh Smith (effective shot selection of a center), Al Horford (takes the worst shots in basketball) and Kwame Brown being the "pressure release". no spacing no shot creation in the frontcourt.

Rest assured, this team will "sux" next year without that trade.

Ruhiel. I know you are on a mission to get everyone to see things as you do. but it isn't going to happen. I wanted to trade Horford for Pau Gasol and get T-mac and maybe Tayshawn Prince as free agents.

but as far as your spacing, JJ, Kirk, and Murphy can give all the spacing you need. and Horford, and Josh can still give the defensive with the help of Kwame Brown......by the way you did see I had Brown coming off the bench? right? as well as Kurt Thomas who would give us the Toughness this team has been lacking as he and Zaza would be our enforcers. I am not sure why you have a (?) behide Kurt Thomas. could you explain that?

we should be able to get Kurt and Brown for about the same about of money they got last year.... 1.3 mil a year. now Murphy would be more. Maybe the Mid- Level or maybe we could talk him into half of the MLE which should be around 3 Mil. the full is a little more than 5 mil a year.

JJ 18
Smith 12.4
Horford 12
Kirk 8
Marvin 7.5
Murphy 5
Zaza 4.7
Teague 1.5
Kurt 1.3
Brown 1.3
Pape .788
Rolle .788

TOTAL 73.276 million payroll.

forgot about Benson maybe he pushes the payroll up to 74 mil. but you can but him in the D-league and not have him on the payroll.

I vote for Landry. He is a beast. I would love to have him on my team... but I think he is going to get a decent size contract and we won't be able to afford him. Troy Murphy is a decent back up PF, he can shoot and rebound. T-mac would be amazing to have on this team.

I would personally like to see this line up if we keep smoove and al. I hate seeing Josh at the 3 but its better than Marvin.

Teague / Hinrich
Joe / T-Mac / Damian Wilkins
Josh Smith / Marvin / Sy
Horford / Troy Murphy
Zaza / ??? / Benson

I would not want to see Zaza as our starting center... and I am a Zaza fan. Murphy could start at the five since we still have Josh and Horford to help him out. and we won't be bring Wilkins back. but someone like Kurt Thomas and or Tmac or Prince would replace Wilkins on the roster.

73 mil is a pretty high payroll. Wasn't the lux tax limit just barely below 70mil last season? Doubtful the Hawks go that high for a guy like Murphy and it's further doubtful since owners want to lower the cap. Going to have to eliminate anyone from the list that could even sniff an MLE type deal and focus on the vet mins. Consequently, I feel Murphy wouldn't be worth more than the vet min so he's still in play but Landry isn't.

I can't see Murphy playing center. I don't think he is strong enough to keep most centers out the paint. I think he would a good back up PF. Nothing more.

I forgot T Mac & Murphy were FA's.

I would love to have both of them on the bench with David Lighty, McCamey, & Scotty Hopson. We need to cut Sy IMO since Lighty can defend 1-3 and hit shots.

1-Teague/Hinrich/McCamey
2-Joe/T Mac/Hopson
3-Lighty/Marvin/
4-Smith/Murphy/Rolle
5-Horford/Zaza/Benson

I think that is great depth and allows Horford, Smith, & Joe to no longer have to play 40 MPG. The 2nd unit looks better than anybody else bench. With Benson getting bigger, I think the Hawks are going to stick Horford at C until Benson can take over full time and start Zaza against big centers.

@myrak, you might get your wish!! The Pistons have been trying to trade for Josh Smith since last season...ATL might be able to get Tayshaun Prince for cheap in a Sign and Trade whenever this lockout ends...

Murphy can play spot minutes at center and some at the 4. but that is why I would have Kwame Brown as the back up center and Kurt Thomas on the bench as well. they could come in and play against the bigger centers. and Murphy would provide the spacing that Ruhiel so desperately wants. Just Kidding Ruhiel I think we need a stretch big as well. Murphy will do.
