Colege Basketball Is Here: What team do you support?

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Mon Nov 7, 2011 2:50 am

All we have at the moment is College basketball. Who do you support and what are you looking forward to during the College basketball season? Anyone particular player that you intend on watching closely?

Expecting to be hated, I'm a life long Duke supporter. Additionally, I did grad school at Vanderbilt so I follow them as well.

Individual players I'm watching include Andre Drummond, Festus Ezeli, and every SG (if we can deal Joe), SF (unless Josh thrives there), and C (always) that might enter the draft (if there is one). I'll expand it to include PG if Jeff Teague is unable to recreate his play from the playoffs. I'm hoping a stud or two winds up in Atlanta as it may be a great year to sort of rebuild or round out the roster. With the possible exception of Tyler Zeller I don't want another Tar Heel. Strangely, it isn't my hatred of North Carolina that is behind that statement. It's my profound disappointment in Marvin Williams. I just don't trust the hype machine with regard to North Carolina players (Harrison Barnes). I'm also not fond of Jared Sullinger because I suspect his below the rim game will struggle in the NBA.

I am a Mississippi State grad. So, that is my team. Will be keeping a close eye out for a mobile legit sized C that can block shots, rebound, and run the floor though because that is what my Hawks need.

Due to proximity to MSG, the whole Big Overrated *ahem* I mean East. UConn mostly though to check out Lamb and Drummond.

Simply because my first College game i ever saw (donwloaded) was Cards vs. Syracuse. Well Louisville was somehow more interesting.

Long time Arizona & Illinois fan. Will be watching Vandy & Baylor.

Intriguing prospects for Atlanta to watch:

Festus Ezeli
Khris Middleton
Rodney Williams
Arsalan Kazemi
Terrence Ross
John Henson

I'd love to land a pick high enough to get Terrence Jones to play SF. I like his passion.

Dallas, congrats on the big win last night and to Coach K's achievement. Bobby Knight is my all-time favorite coach, so it was nice to see the two come together, and thankfully Duke won.

Khris Middleton would be a better fit or have Ross from Washington..

Thanks. I'm glad they reconciled over the last several years (a rift seemed to form after Duke between Indiana in 92 tourney). Amazing longevity and success and it got me thinking of how many of those wins I watched over the years. BTW, Bobby Knight is my dad's favorite coach as well. I've got a lot of respect for him too.

Aren't they more SGs than SFs? Not that it's a bad thing. In fact, it's probably a better fit as you say as I think Joe is more likely to maintain value longer by sliding to SF which would make SG a bigger need area. The differences in the positions aren't much, but I see a SG as having to defend a more perimeter oriented player and needing more quickness than brawn.

Haven't gotten to see either of them yet this year to know how their games are progressing.

Well I have watched Terrance Ross since last year, and he could be a sleeper ROY if he comes out in 2012. He can play off the ball, is an excellent shooter, has great size for a 2, has a nice first step, has a willingness to get on the glass, has great physical tools including the quickness to guard wings effectively, and he doesn't even want to dominate the ball. He is just a team first guy with a great all around game..

I read more about Middleton than I have watched, but He seems like a very skilled offensive player. Maybe a Kevin Martin type guy.

Like you say, Joe will probably be able to extend his longevity at the 3 and also gives the Hawks a perfect wing compliment/replacement at the 2 as well for the future by drafting one of the 2(preferably Ross). Both need to work on their handle though.

Its Kentucky since birth and the 50 years I have been here, I have had a lot ot celebrate.

Cal has it going in Lexington and he gets the obsession that fans have for UK basketball.

2nd to none in tradition, now looking to add to the NC totals this year.....

Can it be done with Davis, Jones, Kidd-Gilchrist, lil Teague and Lamb? I say yes it can.
