Not all doom and gloom - Hawks Contracts Evaluated

http://www.hoopsworld.com/contract-grad ... nta-hawks/

Read the whole article to get the individual breakdowns, but I included the conclusion below for the lazy or busy.

Conclusion

Atlanta Hawks’ management has done an okay job setting them up for the future. With only two contracts lasting past 2013-14 – and those two being franchise cornerstones Johnson and Horford – they have flexibility to fill in the gaps. However, in the short-term the deals to Pachulia and Williams will restrict what they can and cannot do, and long-term Johnson’s contract has the potential – as soon as he is no longer an All-Star – to become a huge albatross on their salary cap.

Overall Grade Looking Forward: B-

Pretty much what I've been saying to all the "Joe Johnson's contract is so huge and bad that the Hawks will be in cap hell forever so trade him to us for Hedo, Matt Bonner, Eddy Curry and Luke Walton so we can win championships please" crowd over on the trade board. The team is going to be pretty lean for the next two seasons.....well one season now....but after that the cap opens up allowing for a lot of turnover and roster flexibility.

If we get rid of Zaza, Josh, and Marvin before 2012-13, we would be 26 million dollars under the cap. Joe at 19 mil and Al at 12 mil, Teague at 1.8 mil.

So you get rid of all your best players for expirings and then hope someone sees you as desirable destination ala New York?

Targeting someone in particular? Only one I see even worth all that is Dwight Howard and he would not have better options than mixing business with pleasure of his hometown Hawks and playing for ASG?

Teague, Horford, and Johnson will continue to be on the team. No way we are close to Cleveland, in fact we are still a borderline playoff team with Smith, Marvin, and Zaza. Since when did Zaza or Marvin become one of our best players? Only Smith is one of our best from the list I listed. He's replaceable.
