Hawks should trade any two players for Dwight Howard
What a great time for the Hawks to push for the one move they could make that would grab everybody’s attention, fill Philips Arena and possibly move them closer to title contention: Trade for Dwight Howard.
I realize this is a long shot. But Howard almost certainly is going to be traded some time over the next several months. He can opt out of his contract after this season and there’s no indication that he wants to stay in Orlando.
Howard never has stated that he wants to come back home to Atlanta to play center for the Hawks. But let’s put the team’s potential sales pitch to him on hold for just a minute.
Here’s the plan, after my high-level talks with Michael “Ice Man” Cunningham: Tell the Magic they can have any two players they want.
At some point, Orlando will come to the realization that it can’t convince Howard to stay so management will go looking for the best deal. I can’t believe any other team in the league could offer as valuable a trade package as the Hawks can. Tell the Magic that they can take Joe Johnson and Al Horford. Or Joe Johnson and Josh Smith. Or Al Horford and Josh Smith.

I still don't understand why Dwight would ever agree to an extension with to the Hawks...or why Orlando would ever consider trading him here. The Clippers scenario seems like a long shot but atleast they play in LA.
The Lakers and Nets seem like the most logical choices by far if he leaves.

Shades of Manning all over again....
LA and NJ/BK are potential trade partners for Dwight because they will have the capability of signing him in free agency thus feel confident extending him now or just going after him later. As we saw with Denver and Utah they felt that dealing their player now can at least garner a better package than in free agency where they are looking at a TPE and two seconds as the best possibility from these same teams.
Teams that are not in that position have no leverage or assurance of that possibility so will be unwilling to offer up that many assets for what will essentially be an attractive expiring.

Focus on feasible moves like going after Kaman and a outside chance at Bogut. They are not trading us Dwight, he is going to have to come to us after opting out if this is where he wants to be or force a trade here like Carmelo did, but they are not trading him here unless he simply says I'm playing in Atlanta next year regardless.

Well we wouldn't have any outside shooters unless Kirk and Crawford stay
Hard in the paint like Josh Smith, do not slip, I bang mine I'm zone one bankhead shawty, I'm west side no gang signs

Kaman is average and Bogut might not recover to be the player he once was and is average. I would rather keep what we have. Howard doesn't sound to realistic. We are Orlando rivals. We don't give them the value they want and we are their rivals.

Re: AJC: Hawks should trade any two players for Dwight Howar
A few random things:
I doubt Dwight Howard is interested in Atlanta because of the ownership. According to some reports Chris Paul would be open to playing for us, so that's nice to know, but Dwight has never seemed to mention it. Maybe he was selected in the NBA draft by Orlando.
The LAC would be an interesting place with Dwight Howard. I like Eric Gordon and now he's gaining more positive exposure around the league. People are catching on.
Chris Kaman would be a nice fit with us, but he's a free agent next year, and I personally think he'll be interested in signing with Dallas (close friends with Dirk).
Tyson Chandler seems like an option for us if we felt inclined to S&T for him.
Back to Dwight Howard. If I was him I would get out of the Eastern Conference. It's going to be difficult to make it to the finals consistently with Miami and Chicago leading the way. The Knicks will most likely get things together eventually once they fill some holes. It just seems to make the most sense for him to go out West depending on the team and situation.

Kaman being a FA this upcoming summer is part of the lure. If he comes here and stinks it up then you really lose nothing other than the 2nd rd picks because I seriously doubt if we are able to re-sign Kirk either without flirting with the luxury. Would you rather be looking at re-signing Kirk or Kaman? Remember you can go over for your own FA's. This is the same bad situation we put ourselves in by not moving Jamal and Zaza for a Center upgrade if possible. I would have loved to move those 2 for Dalembert and whatever else and be able to go over for Dalembert if he had pushed us to a new level.

Re: AJC: Hawks should trade any two players for Dwight Howar
As I said in another thread that the we could make an offer like NJ, but does Orlando deal him in division? Does he sign an extension here? Both are questionable. The offer would be Al, Marvin, Zaza, and Kirk along with 2013 and 2015 #1s for Dwight and Hedo. If we did that then it would make sense to resign Crawford. Not sure how that affects access to the MLE because of the luxury tax apron stuff in the new CBA. Hopefully we'd have the MLE as well but not sure if we would. There may be another problem with the offer in that the Hedo/Marvin swap doesn't give them the cap relief Orlando would prefer.
The resultant lineup is pretty solid, but thin: Jeff, Joe, Hedo, Josh, Dwight with Jamal back off the bench.
By the way the new Melo clause in the CBA has the clock ticking on a deal. If you don't acquire Dwight before the 30th of December then I believe that the extension he can sign is very limited which increases the odds he leaves in free agency because his additional lost income is minor at that point. Same story with Chris Paul trade scenarios.

if i was Dwight and somebody told me that, "hey, you can go to a team with Griffin, Mo, Gomes, and Foye or a team with Smoove, Joe, Teague, and Marvin".... it would be an easy choice for me, i'm going with Team B, because Team A couldn't make it into the playoffs and would be worst than last year's Magic.
Carmelo had no veto power, but he had a huge influence on not being traded to the Nets.

This will never happen but allow me to waste a bit of my time and offer:
Howard + Reddick+ Duhon for Al + Zaza + Marvin+ Kirk + 1st 12
JT- Duhon- Sy
JJ1-JJ2
FA - FA
Smoothe- Rolle- FA
Howard- Benson- Collins (min)
ATL turns around and S&T JC1 + 1st 2014 for Paul George and Rush. Could also sign a. carter as back-up point while using amesty on Duhon
JT- Carter (min)- Sy
JJ1-JJ2- Rush (exp)
George - Evans (min)- Wilkins (min)
Smoothe- Wilcox or Murphy (min)- Rolle
Howard- Benson- Collins (min)
In order to stay under the cap, ATL might have to trade JJ2 and Rush (exp) for back-up SG or 2nd picks and Mo Evans moves in that role.

Clippers would be Paul, Griffin, Howard right?
And this is the scenario Jeff Schultz (2nd article on Dwight, 1st was Horford straight up

Dwight Howard is leaving and fans would not blame him, one iota.

Hankie Aron — Howard rolled his eyes about losing to “the Hawks” last year when Cunningham and I were there during the playoffs. Then we pressed him on it and he begged off from elaborating much. MC asked him again recently at a charity function and he wouldn’t talk.

Dwight never coming here, don't get your hopes up.. just don't even bother watching this season either, don't give those A-holes you call ownership any more money.

If you think Dwight Howard wants to be a Hawk I suggest clicking the link below.
Link
The article and thread is related to Josh Smith, but I doubt his best friend wants to come here, not only because of that, but also due to our ownership.

If I were hawks players, I would all want out of here.. ASG gave them hope in a new ownership like we did and then take it away. I'm not even going to bother watching the hawks as long as that POS owner group is forced to sell.
