Yahoo Sports: Josh Smith still seeking trade from Hawks

Smith still seeking trade from Hawks

Josh Smith hasn’t changed his mind on a future with his hometown Atlanta Hawks: He believes he’s probably run his course with Atlanta. Without an owner committed to making the changes to push this team past its second-round Eastern Conference ceiling, sources said he’d still welcome the team putting him into a trade.

Rival executives say GM Rick Sund has told them everyone is available for deals, although Sund’s most reluctant to move Al Horford. There had been serious discussions between Atlanta and the Minnesota Timberwolves for Smith around the NBA draft, but they never materialized.

I think it's false. I think the ASG shopped Josh around, so he provided them with a list of preferred teams that was reported in the past (Boston, Houston, Orlando, New Jersey), but I doubt Josh Smith requested a trade.

"seeking" is different from "[would] "welcome". Its sesationalism for the title, more clicks, more ads get seen more $$$ for the journalist :D.

* Josh Smith still believes he’s probably run his course with Atlanta.
* Without an owner committed to making the changes to push this team past its second-round Eastern Conference ceiling, sources said he’d still welcome the team putting him into a trade.

* Wouldn't anyone welcome better teammates at this point?

* Josh Smith was not worth a #2 prospect in 2011. Going forward when all the teams are getting more tight-pocketed with the superteams emerging?

* "Rival executives say GM Rick Sund has told them everyone is available for deals, although Sund’s most reluctant to move Al Horford."

Al for a superstar? Al for Bogut & Leuer. If you trade Al you're junking BOTH Jason Collins (Bogut) and Marvin Williams (Leuer) lineups.
The problem is mostly the complete lack of size on the boards/skills of Marvin Williams (#2 pick), over Al Horford (#3) or Josh Smith (#17). imo

TRADES
Al = a center and a SF or a PF
Marvin = a center and a SF or a PF
Smith = a center and a SF or a PF

Al is the only guy who would net the goods. and Without an owner/GM committed to making the changes to push this team past its second-round Eastern Conference ceiling, its discord in the locker rooms.

Smith is not seeking a trade, Al is not seeking a trade, Joe etc. No one is in position to demand one except Al with his rebounding and all around skill = high demand of course.

Everyone sees the league is changing and Hawks/Sund wants to milk Horford+Marvin+Smith as long as he can. Instead of dealing with the problem and moving past the mistakes.

J.Teague* Joe Johnson* J. Smith* J. Leuer * A. Bogut
Kirk Hinrich * Marv.Williams * Malcolm Thomas* K.Benson * Zaza Pachulia
inj. reserve: Pape Sy, Jason Collins

Malcolm Thomas is under Chinese contract. So I don't know if the bench goes small but Al Thornton could be had for around $1 million. With eyes on the playoffs and all the antiDwight big men vets signing elsewhere Collins is a must.

Indy fans are receptive to trading Roy Hibbert for Josh Smith. That, to me, is far better than trading Al Horford for Bogut + scrub.

====
Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com asked Jay Wright to name the best college player with USA Basketball. Wright picked the 6-foot-10 [measured 6'11.5] forward Leuer over Kyle Singler, Nolan Smith and Marcus Morris and others.

“He’s really good,” Wright told Parrish. “Maybe I haven’t followed him as well because he’s from the Midwest, and maybe he wouldn’t surprise anybody else. But he’s got great size, he puts it on the floor, he passes it, he can shoot it. He’s just a ballplayer.”

An NBA ballplayer, Parrish asked?

“Yes,” Wright answered.

Marvin Williams, Al Horford, and Roy Hibbert is a legitimate playoff frontcourt.
Josh Smith, Jon Leuer, and Andrew Bogut is a joke frontcourt that crappy teams like the Bucks might be relegated to using.

Why does it sound false? He is nearly at the end of his current deal so why is it inconceivable that he's already exploring life outside of Atlanta? It's not as if we didn't watch him sign with another team before..........

Mincing words. Legitimate playoff frontcourt? Hawks are not currently worried about making the playoffs aka winning 37 games.
Looking at Roy's stats I see why you qualified that statement though.

Roy Hibbert made $1,685,280 last season. How do you fill out the trade.

Jon Leuer, Josh Smith, and Andrew Bogut is a joke frontcourt that crappy teams like the Bucks might be relegated to using.

Josh Smith, Josh Childress, and Al Horford is a joke frontcourt that crappy teams like the Bucks might be relegated to using.
Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, and Al Horford is a joke frontcourt that crappy teams like the Bucks might be relegated to using.
Josh Smith, Damien Wilkins, and Al Horford is a joke frontcourt that crappy teams like the Bucks might be relegated to using.
Josh Smith, Maurice Evans, and Al Horford is a joke frontcourt that crappy teams like the Bucks might be relegated to using.

No wait, that was all Hawks for 4 years.

Lets entertain that Roy Hibbert's offense rating can finally outpace his defense rating. And that Marvin Williams, Al Horford, Roy Hibbert can not only make the playoffs but threaten Deng, Boozer and Noah and lebron, Bosh, {Dalembert?}.

I'm entertaining that. How do the contracts match up. With scrubs?

The Pacers have this thing callled capspace, over 20 million of it. What that allows them to do is take back waaaaaaaaaaay more than than they send out.

Thanks. But now you have to convince Larry Bird to use most of it on Granger+Josh Smith+?. The media is saying Granger+David + Hibbert. I like that move better than that trade from a Pacers perspective.
I don't see any Smith - Hibbert talk from fans.

Where are you hearing Indiana fans say this azuresou1?

Granger is already signed, they are not using that 20+ mil capspace on him but strictly on other contracts. They can trade for Josh and still have exactly 10 mil in cap space, plus the under the cap MLE and vet minimum exemptions. They can also include either of Dahntay Jones' 2.7 mil deal or Posey's 7.6mil expiring in the deal to comfortably offer Nene or Chandler a more than lucrative deal.

Smith to the Pacers

Post#11 » by Ruhiel » Thu Dec 1, 2011 5:39 pm

I know Granger is already signed. I was taking into account the lineups they would be playing.

Granger+Josh Smith+ Nene/Chandler
Are the Hawks comfortable facilitating that?

Are the Pacers coveting Smith's youth and talent so much or are they comfy with Hibbert, West/Nene, Granger?

There is not really a thread where "Indy fans are receptive to trading Roy Hibbert for Josh Smith". I don't think they are and if someone starts "Josh Smith for Roy Hibbert?" on the T&T I don't think the Pacers would be aggressive pursuing that.

They become less versatile in where they can play free agents and which ones they can pursue.
Danny Granger_Josh Smith_Tyson Chandler would be the best case. Worst case?

Since you have such a good grasp you you Should start that trade thread to gauge Indiana interest.

Indiana Pacers forum says "J-Smoove" might be a good mix but was brushed aside by poster "Indy2theWindy" saying Hibbert was asking too much.

Given Smith's flaws he'd offer Hansbrough and a pick.

I don't know if this rumor is true but I can't see the Hawks passing on a young offensive minded Center when all they gotta do is send their wild PF that wants out of town. It sounds just way too good to be true.

“Rajon didn’t talk much about it but let me do it for him,” Smith said. “It’s mind-boggling to me to see people talking about getting rid of a player who damn-near broke his arm during the playoffs last year for his team and kept playing. We’re talking about arguably the best player in the playoffs for his team energy-wise, defensively and offensively. It’s a sick joke. For anyone to talk about getting rid of him, one of the elite point guards in this league and a true point who passes first and shoots second … it just reminds me of what I already knew, that the NBA is strictly a business. They can try to make it as family oriented as they want to, but at the end of the day it’s a business. And the fact is there is no loyalty in the NBA or any other profession. It’s always business.”

Smith said he is like most of his peers, extra sensitive to that fact with a condensed free agency period and the rushed start to this abbreviated season causing a spike in trade chatter. It’s not just his name or Rondo’s being tossed around. It’s Dwight Howard and Deron Williams and just about any other name you can think of these days.

“Nothing surprises me, though,” Smith said. “After seeing what happened to the NFL players when they came out of their lockout and they had something like 600 transactions in a week and you saw good players, quality players, getting shuffled around the league because of the way the process was structured. Nothing would surprise me.”

Josh is a lot more eloquent than many people give him credit for.

Trying not to take the counter personally, but I'd be tempted to tell him where he could shove Hansbrough. Trading Josh for another PF would be salary dump only and not in the interest of moving the team ahead. I'd rather have 2 1st rounders than Hansbrough and 1. Not that I'd trade Josh for picks without knowing what that pick is (meaning on draft night only). Trading him for a mid-to-low first rounder would be a horrible set back.

I'm surprised. Hansbrough really isn't a bad player at all.

I don't know why it would be considered lucky. He's a decent player which is about what you'd expect for the 13th pick. I remember alot of people saying he wouldn't even make it to his 2nd contract in the NBA and that clearly won't be the case.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
