The lakers are looking for another team to send Gasol or bynum to give the hornets more players for chris paul. I say the hawks get involved wit in the trade since we need a center.

The hornets get:
2 1st round pick from lakers
2 1st round picks from the hawks
Josh smith, Marvin Williams and kirk Hinrich

The lakers get chris paul

The hawks get Trevor ariza, Gasol or Bynum

We will get the center we need and get rid of marvin contract.

Creative, but Ariza's contract is as bad as Marvin's. Got to think the Hornets would be unhappy taking on Marvin.

I think that is to much to give up for Gasol or Bynum. I like Gasol if we can pair him with Smith and Horford and I would like Bynum if he could play a whole season..... or at least 3/4 of a season. but he can't so I don't like either of them at the price of Smith and two first round picks.

Man looks like we're out of the Chris Paul running now that the Lakers have stepped up with these offers, what a shame CP3 could've gotten us over the hump.

Whatever just reported on ESPN that he is now a Laker. ESPN does not make mistakes. The Hornets accepted one of the worse deals they could have gotten just to send him to LA like the league wanted.

LA has made big noise as expected after their humiliating sweep to the Mavs. Kobe and CP3 wow, and they still have Bynum which they can use as a centerpiece for the Dwight Deal; if they get Dwight Howard the Lakers are instant heavy favorites.

^^^ I don't really like Okafor considering his contract.

Also ESPN does make mistakes. Not this time, but they have made mistakes.

You do realize they are still over the cap and not even a certain playoff team don't you. Over the cap means the only thing they can offer Stuckey or anyone else is a vet minimum or mid level contract.

And Goran Dragic and a 2012 1st round pick. I was dropping by to comment we didn't have the ammo to pull that off.

And the NBA has canceled the deal.

if that's the type of offer that's out there for Paul then we simply cannot compete. Scola, Odom and Martin are on the same tier of any one player we can offer x3 and Dragic is on the same tier as Teague. If suitors can't get up to a package like that then the league will seriously have to reconsider killing that deal.

The league will not have to seriously reconsider anything. It is quite obvious that Houston were being the sacrificial lamb in this whole deal and for what reason? Also, the Hornets still would not be a clear playoff team, would not have shed any salary and still be over the salary cap. That was not a good deal for anyone other than the Lakers. How exactly did the Hornets help themselves? They take on longer contracts, more money over the long haul, get a late draft pick. It makes more sense to just totally blow it up and rebuild. Of course, you can say well they can flip those assets, but Kevin Martin got you Carl Landry the last time he was traded, thats not a good flip. Scola isn't young, has a big contract and plays no defense. Odom has always been a wild card and does nothing for you unless you are a seriously established team. He wants to be in LA in the limelight doing things other than basketball. That trade was horrible in every way. Yes, they stay competitive, but how competitive? Borderline playoff. If you are going to rebuild, rebuild. If you are going to contend, contend. Anything else makes no sense. So, many better offers were made. They did the right thing. :lol:

What else is better out there? Now keep in mind they are looking at the prospect of losing Paul for absolutely nothing. So, keep an expiring that you refuse to move for any value and then watch a pathetic franchise with no owner, no free agent willing to sign there, maybe a top pick but immovable contracts in Okafor and Ariza sitting there with zero use. There is no "blow it up" option for New Orleans, there is only move Paul for value or watch him walk. And about the contracts, the longest one is Scola's and it runs just as long as Okafor's and Ariza's, every one else is done after the 2012 season.

Nope, they were offered Monta Ellis, rookies, and picks for Paul with no insurance of a re-sign needed.

They were offered Rondo, Jeff Green, Bradley and picks with no insurance needed. That is better than what they got.

Both better deals in which they took less salary back.

I don't get how you think that was an unfair return for Paul, who is going to leave at the end of the year.
Gasol = All-Star big man
Odom = Reigning 6th man of the year 14.4 ppg

They then turn Gasol into:
Dragic = Project PG with upside after backing up Nash for a couple years. Could turn into a starter.
Scola = Starting PF 18ppg, 8rpg
Martin = Starting SG 23 ppg
1st round draft pick.

Houston wasn't the sacrificial lamb here, they want to rebuild around a big as this is their best way to acquire one.

The only problem I saw with the trade is that the Lakers didn't have to take on Ariza's contract in the deal. You add that in and I say let it go through. The concern of some owners is that this leads to the Lakers also getting Howard, but I don't believe so. They don't have enough weapons for that. As far as cap savings that Gilbert mentioned he is in error. Gasol and Paul will wind up being a salary wash. Odom made approx 8M in each of the two years, but only 2.4M of that is guaranteed next year, so they save about 11M not 20-40M as Gilbert imagined. If they take back Ariza in the reworked deal they don't even get that.

I thought this was more fair than the Gasol to LA deal or the Garnett to Boston deal and easily as fair as the Anthony to NY deal. New Orleans may be without the star they are going to lose to someone, but they improved 3 starting spots in the deal. I'd argue that this makes them a better team now.

I don't think it's fair to any of the players involved but I'm also not really a fan of these super teams either. Getting rid of the 6th man of the year and an allstar bigman for a CP3+Kobe+Bynum+garbage core doesn't seem unfair at all but it seems like the league used w/e power it could to stop the subsequent trade(and obvious collusion)that was probably already in motion behind the scenes.
