Player Outlook: Josh Smith

What do you expect from Josh Smith? What is a acceptable contribution from Josh?

Josh Smith has been part of our big 3 for quite some time now. He has never made a all-star team but was borderline twice. Al and Josh were our best players for the most part last year. Josh is knocked often for bad shots and deserves it most of the time. I would like to see him attack more rather from the post or off the dribble. I would also like to see him use the glass more on his jumpers as that would define his game more by limiting his jumpshots to ones only taken when at the correct angle. All that said I think Josh will be him no big changes.

I expect Josh will score between 15-18 ppg, grab 8.5 rebounds a game, get close to 2 steals a game and 2 blocks a game while playing between 33-36 minutes per night.

Josh will be Josh I guess. I do expect him to get on the fast break more with Teague now that he lost his weight. He will make some boneheaded plays but I expect him to have his best season in terms of stats and give the whole package like he did his 09/10 season except with 2 extra point.

Josh looked okay in pre-season gm 1 but took too many bad shots

What I would love to see is josh smith take a step back on offense and really improve his defense. Like the same thing Andre iguodala did last year in philly. Josh smith has the ability to a first team defender. If the hawks are going to take the next step they are going to have to be a top 5 defensive team. I need josh to be around 15ppg 9to10 rebounds, 2blocks and 2steals, and a better 1on1 defender.

I have no idea what Josh was doing offensively in that preseason game vs. the Bobcats... too many off-the-dribble fadeaway spin jumpshots.
