Al Horford's Shoulder Injury

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Thu Jan 12, 2012 7:27 am

Al Horford suffered a left shoulder strain early in Wednesday's game at Indiana and will not return.
He had X-rays, which were apparently negative, and will be re-evaluated when the Hawks get back to Atlanta on Thursday. Zaza Pachulia entered the game in Horford's place and would probably start at center if Horford's injury is serious. rotoworld.com

Yep, I am interested to see how the team plays a full game without Al and Marvin.

The truth is Joe and Josh played selfishly just jacking up shots without them against Indiana. They need to learn to come closer together when things happen.

Horford's injury just points out how small we are. A big team like IND has to be thinking of pounding us as a part of their game strategy.

Now with Horford out, we are tiny ... or we start Twin and become incredibly untalented - and still weak.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

oh brother, that applies to every team :noway:

Dwight, Bogut, Chandler, McGee, Bynum, Darko, Hibbert, Lopez, KG, Haywood, Duncan, Marc Gasol, etc..... any of those guys get hurt, and their team faces the same problem. Hawks are not specially unlucky, it is part of the NBA :-?

here we go again, fans start jumping off the cliff

Dear critic. I was referring to the fact that we have a PF at Center, a SF at PF and no usable big men on our roster.

I'm sure any confusion on your part is totally my fault. I'll try to be clearer.

Coming out at halftime i thought joe johnson would step his game up. But he stunk it up and didnt score. Jeff teague should have been more agressive too. Josh smith got a lil selfish. If marvin and horford dont play tonight joe and jeff have to step there game up. Joe johnson need an 30pt game just to show me he can still do it. And radmanovic should only play like 12 minutes a game. If his shot is not falling he cant do nothing else to help us win. Without marvin and tracy we should put joe at the three and play janero and green more. I would rather see old stackhouse than radmanovic playing 35 minutes

This first game isn't exactly a test. While Charlotte does have Diop back he's not up to speed yet. Prior to that they were playing Diaw at C and while he has the bulk he doesn't really have great length. BJ Mullens has been surprising off the bench for them and his length did cause some problems the last time we played, but he's not exactly a demon down low (more of a stretch five). After that come some teams that could rough us up with size like Minnesota and Portland.

Yeah i agree this off season i was shocked that they went with ivan and radmanovic as back up power foward. I just cant see a upgrade there. And if hoford or smith miss some time we would struggle a lot.

Our biggest blowouts coincided with Al's absence last year.....Thank you Sund for not trading the 2012 pick.

So the update is out 3-4 months. Dire news. Will Collins/Zaza step up? Can Ivan Johnson handle more workload? Will the team pick up another big? Too early to tell.

It'll be interesting to see how the team handles this setback. If they circle the wagons they could survive to make the playoffs. If not they could fall out of the race and then we may be a seller at the trade deadline. Once again too early to tell.

Playoffs? I'm not sure the Hawks make it there without Horford. We were already thin in the frontcourt, now we will be starting Zaza with Vladman, Ivan and Twin getting extra minutes. The only good news is the small possibility where this creates my dream scenario where the Hawks just miss the playoffs, miraculously win the lottery and get someone like Anthony Davis.

3-4 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow, I just hope when he returns he goes back to being his former self, these types of injuries can ruin a player, whether it makes him hesitant to get back into the trenches or if he re injures the body part in question.

this is bad, but not as bad as if Smoove was injuried.

Hawks are going to miss Horford's production, but when ever Smoove is out and the Hawks don't have his defense, the Hawks look like a lottery team.

Not trying to troll your board I just think a trade of Hinrich and Zaza for Emecka Okafor if your owners are willing to take on those years of his contract would help you guys right now. I can't see the hornets not wanting to save a little dough and maybe get a pick thrown there way.

^ im not too worried, worst comes to worst, i'm okay with the Hawks making the playoffs and getting the 7th or 8th seed, and then have a healthy Horford come back and we surprise a team in the first round.

They aren't. They are more the wait and see type and what that means is they will wait and see how the team performs the rest of the season, if they tread water they will feel confident in a playoff return boosting the team to yet another better than it's record performance. If they bomb then the owners will be satisfied with the chance at selecting a potential superstar in the next draft and adding it to "the core".

I'd trade Zaza and Hinrich for Okafor especially in the situation we're in right now; but I would by no means give away our 2012 draft pick for anything short of a steal right now especially not for Okafor; I'd rather tank the season and be in the Lotto of an absolutely stacked draft class than to give away our 2012 and maybe even still miss the playoffs. It's terrible whenever Al gets hurt but if he was to suffer a season ending injury any year this is the year because of the draft class.
