the Nets are planning to sign Dwight straight up in the off season, but would result in the lowest offer that Dwight is allowed to get.

if that is the case, couldn't the Hawks then offer Dwight more money than the Nets if they worked out a Dwight/Horford sign and trade.

i don't know if the Nets would be willing to do a Dwight and Turk sign and trade, because they are still trying to get max money for Deron.

Dallas and Boston would be trying to do the same thing.

so that leaves the Hawks and Lakers as the only teams who could potentially offer Dwight the most money and send the Magic a center in return?

The new sign and trades rules don't favor us. In order to take power away from players to dictate destination and still get paid in full the new CBA limits the raises for a sign and trade player to 4.5% as opposed to the 7.5% he could get from Orlando. What that means is that if Dwight isn't traded then he has a monetary incentive to stay in Orlando but what he can get from a team with cap room is the same as he can get from a team without cap room. The only motivation Dwight would have to choose a sign and trade would be if it was his desired team and they didn't have cap room. Dallas, Boston, and Brooklyn all are likely to have cap room next year. Dallas would have to make a move or two, but the other two just have to renounce some right to get more than 20M under the cap. Atlanta's only hope is that Dwight wants to come here and I wouldn't expect that without the Hawks being sold before the start of free agency.

The only part of the sign and trade rules that doesn't go into effect yet is the part regarding the acquiring team pushing further into the lux tax by over 4million. That won't take effect until 2013-14, the deadline for Dwight to get traded and receive full Bird rights (7.5%) from another team in an extension (if he opted to become a free agent in 2012) has already passed thus, and this is mostly speculation on my part, why there are rumors that he might opt into his last year of his contract at 20 million and then hope to be traded then with full Bird rights rather than lose out on ~3-5 million in the initial year of his contract and beyond.

Just to conclude before I write too much...... there is no advantage for Dwight to force his way onto the Hawks in a SnT scenario anymore for the 2012 free agency.

Why are we still even discussing Dwight? Why would he want to play for a franchise that does not take care of it's players. The captains of the team reportedly asked for big man help during training camp and were ignored. So, what's gonna happen when we give up players to get Dwight and still need pieces? Well, history says he will be ignored when asking for help. ASG and Sund are stupid enough to say something like I thought you were superman why do you need help. Dwight isn't coming here and I don't blame him.

It is pretty obvious he only wants to go to a market team located in NY, LA, or DAL. If we didnt have such bad owners we might be considered.
