Joe makes it because he really is arguably the 3rd best SG in the NBA behind D-Wade and Kobe.
Josh left out again because of reputation IMO, and the jumpshot issue is the head of his negative rep.

Josh is averaging more points rebounds assist blocks and steals and his team has a better record yet Garrnett made the team...nonsense.

Congrats to Joseph, Atlanta's steady blinged out hand. Can't say I'm surprised by Josh, there've been much better years by him and he didn't make it.

That's the All-Star game for you, Garnnett didn't deserve the All Star game appearance but coaches like him more then Josh.

Well, to be fair Rod Strickland never made a all-star team and I think he was much better than Josh. High scoring and assist totals during his prime year end and year out.

Josh's game got much worse during the losing streak. He's very inconsistent. I think the only guy that made the team you can dispute is Pierce. He played only a few games and his team has struggled. Now, you look at the other fowards, Deng is the most underrated 3 in the NBA. Bosh is better than Josh and Iguodala's team has been playing really well, having him as a key piece. I'm not surprised or upset. Josh Smith will never live up to his potential because he tries to do more than he really can. I can't think of a coach that dreams about coaching a guy like him. That's the reason why he didn't get picked this year, last year, and not even in the future unless someone gets hurt...

Kevin Garnett didn't make the all-star team.

It was a toss up of Josh vs a bunch of SFs. Josh doesn't fare well in toss-ups. Because of his reputation and demeanor he has to clearly outperform the competition to get the nod. Merely paying as well as anyone else isn't going to finish well for him.

Joe gets judged based on what he is.
Josh gets judged against what his potential would be if he played smart and hard every night instead of just select games.
Fair? No, but that's life. If Josh ever wants to get selected in his career, he needs to play to at least 80% of his potential regularly.

LMAO larry drew has Josh Smith on Turkoglu and Marvin on Ryan Anderson I love it.
So nobody's going to say Josh Smith's strengths and advantages means he's a SF playing out of position?

Who doesn't already know that Josh is a SF playing out of position? Only the people that think his lack of top notch handles, love for jumpshots, and suspect lateral quickness means he is a 4. Josh is a mismatch nightmare at the 3 because he can post everyone at the 3. He posted Deng in the playoffs and he might be the best SF defender along with Lebron.

this and the talk from his agents has been comedy and insightful. Nvr realized there's lobbying involved.

Bottom line is the guy should have made the All-Star game as a reserve at the very least. Don't give me that attitude crap, if that was the case half the players that make it would never go. He flat out got snubbed and I'm sick of it.
On the bright side maybe he will continue to take it out on the opponents like he did against the Magic tonight.

its funny. He takes the same shots every night. But now he had softer small forwards on him and so he got a high points total.
Then a true Power PF/C Big Baby guards him bumps him and nearly airs out a step back jumper.
He takes the same shots every night but never gets credit for playing out of position. Sam Mitchell said on NBATV Smith should have driven the ball took contact and put the onus on the refs to call it??/
Does anyone else think Josh Smith get a bailout call in Orlando? That would have been a superstar type respect call.

If we had a stretch 4 or 5 and Josh would stop taking so many jumpers (i.e. slashing and posting up more), he could play more time at the 3. His lateral quickness and man defense isn't great, but his help defense and rebounding makes up for it.

I've seen this a lot. Why do people talk about lateral quickness. He is lanky and uses his athleticism to contest and seriously frustrate and alter smaller wings.
Problem is if they do get by him he doesnt have a tall stretch 4 or 5 that can put their hands up and step in the way of the basket so Smith can recover and block/alter shots from behind.
