The Kings have hired Clifford Ray to work with the team's big men.

Ray began coaching with the Mavericks in 1987 and was most recently an assistant with Boston from 2006 until 2010.

"He just has a way of talking and communicating with bigs who perform like a five-man," Keith Smart said.

"I've seen all the guys that I've had, big guys that he's worked with, how they developed and developed mentally, how they developed to understand the game from the five position," Smart said. I must praise the Kings for hiring him and Ray for taking on the challenge. Wow, I never expected this to happen.

Clifford Ray who had dramatic impact on Dwight Howard, Al Jefferson, and Kendrick Perkins was out there on the market and the Hawks didn't bring him in to work with Al, Josh, and Zaza. I begged for him for years when he was in Boston. Would have been a smart investment. Expect bigger things for DeMarcus Cousins.

I've never understood, especially with our draft record, why we never spent more money on player development and coaching up players.

It'd be alot less expensive than ponying up 18 million/year on non superstar players.

Scouting, coaching, and player development are the difference between us being an average organization and being perrenial contenders.

Just ask the Spurs.
