Cleavland and Atlanta talking

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Mon Mar 12, 2012 5:37 am

Supposely Atlanta and Cleveland discussing trades.

Rumors say the Cavs continue to have an open dialogue with the Atlanta Hawks concerning small forward Marvin Williams. That rumor won't go away. One media report said forward Josh Smith's name has been added to those discussions. Some have suggested sending Jamison and Sessions to the Hawks for Williams and Smith. The Cavs would probably do that. http://news-herald.com/articles/2012/03 ... 215878.txt

Yeah, I saw this crap the other day. Just some Cavs writer spewing crap.

There is no way in hell Atlanta gives up two starters to get one OLD ass starter and a bench player(at the point guard no less)

The funniest thing is that he says "Cleveland would PROBABLY do this"

Although the cap space alone we'd have for next year is enticing...I concur. there's no way we can let Smoove go for their table scraps.

Now if they include Varejao and their 1st round pick this year, the conversation starts to get a little interesting.

yeah but smith has a great contract so this would basically be trading Josh Smith to free yourself of Marvins contract.

You don't trade Smith to get rid of Marvin. Sessions isn't nearly enough of an upgrade to make up for the loss of Smith to Jamison. Getting capspace would be nice, but it isn't like we would do anything with it.

I'm pretty concerned that this NBA front office is rigged to tank on purpose.

Josh and Marvin for Jamison and Sessions.... and an unprotected pick????

still for me, its a "no"

Josh and Marvin for Jamison, Sessions, an unprotected pick, and Tristan Thompson?... huh maybe?

Josh and Marvin for Jamison, Sessions, an unprotected pick, and Tristan Thompson, then trade Tristan to Toronto for their first round pick, then use the picks to get Leonard and, Michael Kidd Gilchrist, and use the cap to make an offer to Asik or Brook Lopez.... hmmmmm, maybe, i'll have to think about it more, i'll call you back.

It could be tempting to the ASG if Cleveland includes a first round pick with limited protection.

Haha, what do we do with draft picks? We waste them.

Teague and Josh...throw the rest at the Cavs and let them pick and choose.

Well, it's not like a star caliber player is going to sign with us, no one seems to have any respect for our ownership. Any cap space is going to be spent on role players.

We know Sund and the ASG have tried to acquire a top 5 pick for Josh Smith. A draft pick(s) with limited protected or a package that includes players that can be serviceable (not all-star caliber) seems to be the ideal situation if Josh Smith does indeed get traded.

Horrible trade thoughts going on here. Would not mind Jamison's expiring but would only send Kirk and Marvin and that is just not going to work. So, I don't see a deal that makes any sense.

would be intrigued if varejao and pick for smith/marvin...thats where id start anyway. Pairing kyrie with smith exciting for them, we'd get a lotto pick and varejao...id be a lil disappointed in that return for smoove, but id think about it.

Sessions/jamison is garbage unless its for marvin

I can see using Josh Smith to free the team of Joe's contract, but not Marvin's. That's too much of a sacrifice just to get rid of Marvin's deal.

But then again I'm the person who has already said I stop going to Philips Arena if they trade Josh and don't get rid of Joe. I'd rather see a team build around Jeff and Al than Jeff, Al, and Joe.

I wouldn't do Smith/Marvin for Varejao/Pick, their pick this year mightbe in the lottery but it won't be in the high lottery as Cleveland is playing some alright basketball, it especially won't be that high if they get Smith, and then if they overtake the Knicks for the 8th spot (which is possible) it won't even be a lottery pick. Then there's Varejao who's barely been on the court the past 2 years who's no guarantee at all. I would do Tristen Thompson/Varejao/2012 first for Marvin/Smith, or if they insist on not taking Marvin then Thompson/Varejao/2012 first/2013 second for Smith
Teague
Joe
Marvin
Horford
Varejao
with Thompson as a 6th man and 2 2012 1sts
or somebody mentioned the fact that we could trade Thompson for a lotto pick this year, either is fine for me

Another possibility with CLE involving TOR

JJ + Hinrich to CLE along with TOR 2nd and PHO 2nd (from ATL)

Sessions + ATL 1st to TOR

Jamison + Thompson+ De Rozan to ATL

JT- Pargo- Green
DeRozan- TMac- Stachouse- Green
Marvin- Radman- Smith
Smith- Thompson- Johnson
Zaza- Collins- Dampier (Horford)

That team would be running and fit Josh style of play better
Green could start at 2 and Derozan at 3 to bring Marv off the bench depending on match-up..

Possible Cleveland deals:

Ramon Sessions for Marvin Williams
Reasons: Atlanta gets out of Marvin's contract, Cleveland: Marvin is an upgrade at SF for them, fear Sessions opts out at end of year

Sessions and Jamison for Hinrich and Williams
Reasons: Pays luxury tax this year, but attempts to improve team at same time, flexibility in future. Rest is same as above

Anderson Varejao, Jamison, Sessions and 1st round pick (with protections) for Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, Kirk Hinrich
Reasons - saves luxury tax this year and in future, Varejao takes over as undersized center as Horford moves to PF in future.
Against - Hard to acclimate the changes in shortened season. Only do the deal if you are resolved to losing Josh Smith at the end of his contract.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=7qboxc2

Notice Hollinger's stats doesn't like the deal short-term for Cleveland probably because of Hinrich.

If you make this deal and Sessions opts out the Hawks have 5 players on the roster at 46M next year, plus 2 1st round holds. With minimum player holds on the other spots the Hawks still wouldn't be a free agent player (Joe's deal kills that), but they'd have a core of Teague, Johnson, Horford, Varejao, Pachulia and 2 firsts. I like the idea of using the higher pick on SG like Brad Beal or Austin Rivers and the lower pick on prospect center Festus Ezeli. I also like the idea of using the late 2nd round for a depth prospect like Tyshawn Taylor or Scott Machado. The early 2nd rounder is to hedge on another big. To that lineup you sign some vet minimums as usual.

I still prefer to offer Joe to Orlando, but if you are going to lose Josh anyway, then you could do worse than dumping Marvin, getting a mid-lottery pick and an undersized center to allow Horford to move to PF.

Joe + dampier + TMac to NJ for Morrow- Petro- Brooks + to be waived Farmar + Stevenson + S. Williams

Why for ATL? Get rid of Joe fat contract while making Smoothe happy. faster pace with Morrow nad Brooks around. Petro still a nice prospect as back-up C.

JT- Hinrich- Pargo
Morrow- Brooks- Green
Marvin- Vladman- Stackhouse
Smith- Ivan- Vladman
zaza- Petro- Collins/ Al?

Why for NJ?
Getting another big piece with DWill to build around with D12.
Sign back Farmar and maybe Stephenson

I like Sessions and how he has improved his overall game. He now has 3-point range (43%), so that's another weapon, and I would prefer he get extended if we acquired him.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
