Josh Smith is finding out who he is...

... and it's fun to watch. He's eased off of the jumpers and moved inside. Listen, we all want him shooting jumpers (he needs to draw his defender out) but he'd been establishing his game too far out - until now. Maybe it's the pressure of being the man for us, but he's realized how terribly he hurts our team as a jumpshooter only and how terrific he is when he drives, posts up or backs down his man.
Last night, out of the 23 shots he took, he shot 10 from outside and 13 inside. When Horford comes back and we can play Josh at SF, I'd like to see the percentage of inside shots increase. He could be a 25 pt/game player.
Before that, the SAC game he shot 13 times from outside and 10 times inside.
The DET game, he shot 7 outside and 12 inside.
The MIA game, he shot 11 outside and 11 inside.
There's a pattern emerging.
Just giving credit where credit's due. If we groan when he shoots from outside, we need to brag on him when he goes inside. Remember, he has to take a lot of punishment when he drops down inside against the big boys. This is not an pain-free thing he's being asked to do.

Is no one else worried that he's putting up these impressive numbers, but we're still losing/

Try to pay attention, chief. The whole point of the thread is that Josh is figuring it all out right now. He's playing amazing...right now.
In the last 5 games he's averaging 26 ppg 8 rpg. Pretty good numbers, right?
But we are only 2-3 in those five games.
In the last 10 games he's averaging 23 ppg and 10 rpg. Great numbers, right?!?
But we are only 5-5 in those ten games.
In the last 20 games Josh is averaging 20 ppg and 10 rpg. Still impressive numbers, right?
But we are only 8-12 in those twenty games.
Numbers don't lie. Try not to be so enamored with fancy dunks and highlight plays that you miss the easy truth. We're not winning.

the last five games have also been road games..... agenda fail
in the last twenty games, Josh only had "impressive numbers" 11 times, and in those games, the Hawks are 8-3..... epic agenda fail

I completely agree with you. Josh Smith only puts up "Impressive Numbers" as you call them, half of the time. He's inconsistent and can't be depended on.
And in the past week Josh Smith put up 20+ points 4 times.
We're 1-3 in those games.
Which leads back to my first question:

well i guess you don't know what "sample size" is
so i guess for some reason 1-3 is valid but 19-3 is not valid?
it is obvious that you make statements without watching real games, because if you actually watched the Denver game or the last 30 seconds of the Pistons game, you would know that your 1-3 comment is idiotic and trite.
but i agree, Josh is not constant and the Hawks and especially Joe, needs to start featuring Josh as the #1, the last play in the Detroit game proves that.

I cant blame josh all the way. But he still dont understand. When joe was out i didnt mind him taking 20 shots. My problem is half is still jump shots. Like that is the weakness in his game but he still take them. If he took 70 percents of his shots inside i will not have a problem. Because when everyone is healthy his shot attemps will go down to about 12 to 15. But he still need to focus more on his defense.
One thing i have notice is josh is the only person on the team that is not scared to take the big shot. Right now i feel like teague marvin and joe have better offense game than josh but all three has been scared to take more shots. Teague and marvin is playing passive and josh is the only one willing to take on a bigger role on offense. Joe is trying his best to make teague and marvin more aggressive but he is the 1 that should be taking 20 plus shots. Thats why i cant blame josh all the way. I blame the 120 million man joe johnson. He is our leader and he needs to step up. Trust me if josh played with kobe he would be taking all of them jumpshots.

I'll rephrase my question.
Does it concern anyone that in the past few weeks as Josh Smith has played very well and emerged as a force in this league, our team has continued to lose?
Josh is playing well, but we're still losing.
With Joe. Without Joe. We're still losing.

Yeah it concerns me (trade for KG) but people and "people who know basketball" say "what we need is everyone to be healthy". Then Smith leaves so the BBIQ Queens can build around Al Horford who's still a fail in the faceup game, for the next 3-5 years, we can see that & still lose.

i guess you don't know what a road game is and what a home game is.

Anybody criticizing Josh for our recent losing record needs to take Horford and Joe's absences into account.
The original point was that he's starting to play better ... and more inside, just as we've begged for years. He deserves credit for that.

Are you serious?! Most of those loses came against playoff teams including the super top heavy Heat, the Lakers, the Clippers, the Sixers, the Bulls , and others and some of those games featured an unhealthy Joe or even no Joe, so that was more attention focused on Josh. Josh scored 33 and added 13 boards, & 7 dimes and shot great from the field, to go along with the aid of Joe's 34 and the Hawks still lost by one to the nuggets. Is it Josh fault he didnt score 35 and fouled out in an overtime game?! I hope you don't expect Horford to carry us as well as josh has done.
