I wonder if the Nets would have taken Joe instead of Wallace
I wonder if the Nets would have taken Joe for the protected pick and contracts, instead of Gerald Wallace.

I actually think they would've. The only way for these last place teams to speed up their re-building process is to either draft exceptionally well, or to acquire productive players from teams trying to dump salary. And since they've traded away their first round lottery pick for the second season in a row...
We were a last place team until JJ got here, and I suspect JJ and Deron Williams would be enough to get them to the playoffs and maybe even attract other free agents this summer.
The only caveat is that (I think) Gerald Wallace's contract is up in the next season or two. (Something about a player option if i recall.) So they may have had concerns regarding taking on all that extra salary.
Hell, I read NJ offered Brook Lopez to Milwaukee for Monta Ellis. I think they may be getting desperate in their attempt to sway Deron Williams to re-up.
I'm thinking the GM/Coach are fearful of Prokorov's wrath should they remain a last place team.
So, final answer...I am 99% sure we could have come up with a package where they took JJ and we got cap space and draft picks.

Hey guys, nets fan here. I wouldve preffered JJ to Wallace. However would you guys be interested in a draft day salary dump for JJ? Maybe our Houston pick involved? I think we are desperate enough.

Atlanta had better shop JJ this summer. It's their last chance to get anything resembling a salary dump for him.

Yes they would've, the Gerald Wallace trade was a total panic move as was the D-Will trade last summer, the Nets had a good thing going rebuilding wise until that Williams trade, now if D-Will leaves they have to start over again

I don't think they would of. Crash may have been a reach but at least he's still only on a one year deal from now. When Deron bounces this summer they know that they won't be saddled with any long term salary that would get in the way of their rebuild.

Wallace, Morrow, and Rockets' pick for Joe?
im even okay with Morrow, the pick and contract for Joe, and you guys can keep Gerald and Joe to go along with Deron, Hump, and Lopez

I'm still awestruck by how POR managed to fleece a lottery pick from BRK. They traded the draft pick used on Lillard to acquire Wallace on the last 2 months of his contract.
Lillard is a true rising star in this league. More highly regarded than any young player we've had in years. Drummond was also available with this pick to.
Just think: Brooklyn wanted Joe. Brooklyn wanted Josh. had we offered either one of these guys we could be so much further along in our retooling of the roster with a top young player and Horford as the foundation.
Lillard and Drummond have had a hell of an All star weekend thus far. We held onto our core for too long. Ended up getting pretty much nothing for any of them.
Wherever he is...I'd like to punch Rick Sund in the face.
