Remember the drive and dunk just a minute earlier? He shot it because he's Josh Smith: part Six Million Dollar Man, part nickel brain.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

nobody was on Smith when he got that dunk, KG wasn't their and nobody was in front of him and Josh had a straight line to the basket.
on that shot Josh took, KG was on him and KG had a couple of blocks already in the game
it was a rhythm jump shot that Josh took

Eh. I don't like it but the way they weren't calling anything at the rim I had no problem with it being a jumper...just didn't want smith taking it,

the whole play looked bad, but when you look at it again, i think Joe gave up the ball and their was only 3 second left in the shot clock (9 seconds in the game).
Josh could have tried to passed it to Joe or Horford (or anybody else) but really with only 3 seconds left, it would have put the other guy in a bad situation.
instead of the jumpshot, Josh could have tried a quick running hook over KG, but KG is long and Josh didn't trust his knee.

I wanted Joe or TMac to make the play. i have to look at it again, but i think Joe got the ball and gave it back up. Josh then ended up with it.
the more i think about it, i'm not really made about Josh settling for a jumpshot, i'm more upset that Joe didn't fight for the ball harder and go iso.

i'm really too depressed to watch game film or highlights, but i think their was only 3 seconds left in the shot clock, because the Hawks got the ball back at 31 seconds, and the Celtics got the ball back at 9 seconds..... so that means their was like 21 or 22 second possession for that Hawk's ?

when ever i get the time to look at the tape, i'll have to see whether it was 3 seconds left on the shot clock or more.
if their was 15 seconds left on the shot clock, then yes, Josh is defiantly to blame, but if it was 5 or less, then it was really the right basketball move to make.

•Drew on Atlanta’s penultimate possession that ended with Josh’s missed jumper: That wasn’t [the play]. We were in our wrong spots. We did not execute what we had drawn up in the huddle. We can’t have that type of mental breakdown at the end of a game. You just can’t have it. That play is not designed to be at the elbow shooting a jump shot. We did not execute it.”

So, how did Josh end up at the elbow then?

Yikes.........Now I don't blame that shot for the outcome of the game but I still don't see how anyone can excuse it.......who doesn't have Smoove coloured shades on that is. He had the ball with 6 seconds on the clock, apparently LD said that wasn't the play but Josh had split TWO defenders just over a minute earlier for a dunk.....thus why he had a straight shot at the rim.

That was a stupid play drawn up. And josh smith shouldn't have taken that shot. He was not open and something what he don't realize is he is the worst jump shooter on the floor and he is taken away our best rebounder. I wanted to jump through the tv when he took that stupid shot.

LOL at Drew.
"that was totally not my play! It wasn't supposed to be Josh taking a Elbow JUMPER!!!!"
No, it was going to be Josh taking a Jumper on the wing. Was clearly supposed to be on the wing while Joe and Al did a screen at the top of the key. Unless the celtics just didn't play Horford on the roll(not going to happen) or went under the screen(not going to happen) Joe was going to swing the ball to Josh on the right side for a jumpshot with about 3 seconds left on the shot clock.
Any play that had Josh on the outside was dumb. Larry, your play was stupid, Josh just made it stupider*.
*yes I realize stupider is not a word.

Inbound for ATL with 30.4 left.
He starts his jumpshot at 13, so there were 6-7 seconds left.

Larry drew can't coach. I mean u just called a time out and that was the best u came up with, and his out of bound plays are just horrible. I never seen a team have trouble in bounding a ball like we did. U could see the game was getting to big for Teague. He just keep messing have been in the game a long time ago. Kevin Garnett was just doin josh smith and drew never double him. Doc rivers know how to take the ball out of it best player hand. Especially when they had rondo on the court. Larry drew can't coach. and he needs to go

On the key possession of Game 6, the Hawks found themselves with nobody but Smith inside the 3-point arc with seven seconds on the shot clock. The play had been designed for Johnson, but he was bumped out of his cut and nobody else knew what to do. Smith hoisted a 20-footer that had no chance. Watch the tape and you’ll see Horford raise his arms after the Celtics rebounded as if to say: “What was that?” It remains a question asked far too often of these Hawks.
“I was upset,” Horford said, speaking Friday morning. “I thought it was a really tough shot.”

6-7 seconds left on the clock. J-Smoove puts up a 20 footer.
Man, I hate Josh Smith...

yeah i saw the tape, it was a bust play. Josh got the ball with about 6 or 7 seconds left. so with 6 or 7 seconds left, was it the right play?
Joe is really to blame. Horford was at the top of the key, pulling KG away from the goal, Josh was to Horford's right and Joe was in the right corner to the right of Josh. Josh could have forced a pass to Joe, but Joe wasn't moving and Pierce was playing Joe at an angle that would have made a pass to Joe hard for Josh (that would have been a bad play)
im not upset that Josh took the shot, im furious that Joe just stood in the corner frozen and didn't move! Joe should have cut base line and sealed off Pierce, or posted up Pierce, or set a pick for Josh. (or Marvin should have flashed to the basket)
people keep mentioning the Josh dunk and then the Josh jump shot, but those are two totally different situation. when Josh got the dunk, he caught the Celtics out of position. on the jump shot possession, everybody was standing around and the Celtics were in position.
Josh could have tried to put the ball down and ended up with a running hook against Bass, or Josh could have tried a pump fake, but if the pump fake didn't work, it would have taken the rhythm out of the jump shot or given Bass better position to defend a penetration.
but what do you guys think.... was 6 seconds enough or not enough time? was 6 seconds enough to make another pass? was 6 seconds enough to get another play?

Joe froze because Josh wasn't supposed to be there. It clogged up the top of the key because both Garnett and Josh's man was there. The play was busted and Josh busted it.
The problem is the ACTUAL play was going to net you a Josh Smith jumper from the right wing and not where he was.
