How Did Kirk's Great B Ball IQ fail to rub off on this team?

Post#1 » by Superiorblogman » Fri May 11, 2012 8:43 am

When Kirk Hinrich was traded for it was thought to be such a great trade by some of the media. They called it the underrated move of the trade season. The blogs were split. I know for sure the ajc blog was mostly against it, and that at some other smaller lessor blogs some people got banned for there strong opinions mostly dealing with the Hinrich situation as it concerned the whole IQ argument, it most definitely made very apparent a nasty argument about basketball IQ as Kirk Hinrich was immediately given the job of improving our overall basketball IQ by some dumb media outlets and by some lost bloggers. I truthfully had never heard the phrase used so much around Atlanta Hawks forums until our great savior Kirk was coming to save us.

Since there was such talk about Kirk and his great basketball IQ before he got here and it is obvious that he did not help us improve to a smarter basketball team, what do you attribute that failure to?

Do you still put a lot of value into your eye test of who has a high basketball IQ because obviously unless they are given wanderlick test in the NBA you have no facts to back up your claims of who are the high and low IQ players. Even if wanderlicks were given you would just ignore them when you please and flaunt them as proof when you decide. For instance, Marino's was lower than Vicks but I don't think too many people would argue with you that Vick can read a defense better than Marino.

Are the people that swore he had a high basketball IQ and would be so great for this team finally ready to admit that it was because of stereotypes that they swore Kirk's IQ would change the complexion of history?

Why was his great B Ball IQ unable to make a difference here or on the Wiz team that we overpaid to get him from?

Finally, hell yeah, like I said he is Kirk "Lateral Move" Hinrich with the potential to take us backwards and in some ways at some times he did take us backwards.

You can't look at a trade purely based on players performance. By trading for Kirk, we got rid of Bibby and his atrocious defense. We got to play the Magic in the playoffs that year and beat them in part because of Kirk's defense on Nelson. Then he got hurt, Teague gets a chance and then becomes a starter, a solid one. So, when you add it all up, it was a good trade. There's way more good than bad that came out of it. With that being said, I'm glad he's gone. He never seemed very comfortable on the court. It might be L. Drew's system or whatever, the truth is that he and the Hawks are better off away from each other.

This thread is really not about rather it was a good trade in anyone's opinion. It is about why did the basketball IQ foolishness get thrown around so much when we went out and got Kirk and why he never made it apparent that he had some great B Ball IQ. Once again, if he had such a great IQ why didn't it rub off on this team or Washington? Finally, why did people ever think he had a high b ball IQ other than stereotypes that most never want to tackle?

Josh is not a smart basketball player if he were he would not keep making the same mistakes over and over again. I am simply asking why did Kirk and his great IQ not rub off on this team or rather people are ready to admit they were lying to themselves about Kirk ever having a high b ball IQ because of stereotypes? Finally, if Josh has such a high b ball IQ why were the Hawks boards never flooded with talk of it? Hawks boards were flooded with comments about Kirk and his high b ball IQ and how it would change everything.
