Hawks Revamp Plan...

Post#1 » by pja123 » Mon Jun 4, 2012 6:52 pm

Trade No.1 (between ATL, Orlando, & the Clipps)
Hawks get:
J.J. Reddick
Eric Bledsoe
Ryan Gomes
Quentin Richardson
#19 pick in the draft (via Orlando)

Magic get:
Joe Johnson

Clipps get:
Jason Richardson

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HAWKS:
They unload JJ's contract and pick up mucho cap relief with this deal. They also pick up some young pieces in Bledsoe and the 19th pick.

Trade No.2 (between ATL & Sacto)
Hawks get:
Tyreke Evans
Chuck Hayes

Kings get:
Josh Smith

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE HAWKS:
We get a fine replacement for JJ in Evans. I think he could return to his 20ppg leve of production with the Hawks.

DRAFT:
#19 pick - Evan Fournier
why?
Intriguing perimeter player whose drawn comparisons to Thabo Sefolosha.

#23 pick - Fab Melo
why?
Big man who needs time to develop, but could turn into a reliable 5.

FREE AGENCY:
Sign Emeka Okafor (after he's inevitably amnestied) - 3 years/full mid-level
why?
Okafor would be a great compliment to Horford up front.

NEW HAWKS ROSTER:
PG-Jeff Teague/Eric Bledsoe
SG-Tyreke Evans/J.J. Reddick
SF-Marvin Williams/Ryan Gomes/QRichardson
PF-Al Horford/Chuck Hayes
C-Emeka Okafor/Zaza Pachulia/Fab Melo

Don't see this one working. They are fine trades and if you can pull it off the resultant team looks intriguing. I just don't think you get those trades made.

Trade #1 - was roughly a trade I wanted to make last year, but Orlando I think is out of the Joe market. They didn't get Dwight to extend, just not opt out. They are still in trade or risk losing him for nothing, but they no longer have a postseason to impress him with. Also Eric Bledsoe is prized by the Clippers. Can't see them using him in that package.

Trade #2 - Don't think Josh Smith is the way the Kings want to go, but even if I'm wrong I'm not sure about Evans is someone you build on or if he's the type of player who scores well, but doesn't win. Worth the risk though in your scenario because as an RFA at the end of the season you might be able to lock in his prime for a reasonable price.

Okafor - Don't know why it is assumed that he'll be amnestied, especially this year. After resigning Gordon and signing their picks, it really depends on what they think of their other free agents as to whether they have incentive to shed his salary at this point. He's not a disruptive force and he fills a role. They might amnesty him next year, but they aren't likely to reach luxury tax this year nor are they likely to be a shopper in free agency (except their own). They're looking to build up the franchise not pay to have a player play elsewhere.

Yeah, I don't really see this working either - on multiple levels.

1st trade: Agree with evildallas in that ORL is no longer in the market to add JJ and his contract. They're past the point of trying to appease D12 with players - now he's either got to sign an extension or be traded. If he signs with ORL, then there a shot they could make a run at JJ, but it's much more likely he doesn't and they won't make a move like this until the ink is dry.

Also, LAC easily passes. Richardson is done and has a contract lasting 3 more years. I'm not sure they'd give up Gomes' expiring for him - so forth Bledsoe. Put it this way: regardless of whether ORL signs D12 or not, they'd still make a deal of Richardson for Bledsoe/Gomes. That's how bad the trade is for LAC.

2nd trade: As with above, I'm not a big fan of Tyreke either for many of the same reasons that evildallas states. Even SAC is about fed up with him as he's seemed to regress since his rookie year instead of getting better. Hayes' contract is also a problem - regardless of what is said by our FO, we don't want to pay the LT and their actions prove that. Taking on the extra salary would inhibit us in FA especially considering we'd have 2 RFAs in Tyreke and Teague.

In all honesty, if this is the best deal out there for Smoove, then I'd prolly just give it a go for another year and let him expire. Many reasons for it, but the biggest in this scenario would be that once JJ is traded, then getting the salary and LT situations under control would be priority #1. Bringing in someone like Hayes and Tyreke just screams mediocrity that we'll never get out of.

Draft: Don't understand the Fournier selection at all. He's propped up by the fact that he's the best International guy out there, but his game has holes. I'm not sure if I'd touch him @ 23 - so forth 19 which, if we can glean anything from the draft pundits mock draft boards, seems like a full tier above 23. I really don't even want into how p!ssed I'd be if we got a higher selection... then just stashed him.

FA: Not sure if the Okafor thing is a joke or not. Would be really stupid to put up a full MLE for someone who made it through the amnesty process. I guess this is really out there to call our FO DA's? That's all I can figure.

I don't disagree with the mission of going into the offseason with the goal of JJ and Smoove, but this off-season is really lacking. I wouldn't mind making Teague and Horford the centerpieces of a rebuilding effort, but I really don't see how any of these pieces fit with those 2 outside of Melo. Okafor has already proven that he isn't interested in a rebuilding effort; Evans is a ball hog that can score and not much else; Richardson, Hayes, and even Gomes are just guys that we'd be waiting for their contracts to expire and wouldn't be in any future plans at all. The best player we got here is prolly Bledsoe who would be a backup, and the shining piece we'd receive for JJ is stashed overseas. Seems very lackluster and not thought out too well...

this is the best post I have seen in awhile..... this trade makes us. 1st a Lottery team. and 2nd, just plan boring as hell to watch....we could get much more than Reke for Smith and to take on Hayes bad contract to boot. if Sacto sends their first round draft pick aswell then we can talk...
