http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... _On_GM_JobI hope this is not true because it would make little sense to let Sund and Pendy make the pick or picks then go hire a guy from outside, when you could have allowed the new GM to start making moves when the offseason for your team officially started.

The ASG is dysfunctional but I believe that Ferry also began his Cleveland tenure right after the draft. He's a guy that can pull off some trades though but any excitement over that is tempered because Gearon is the ass hat who actually makes the GM decisions.

Sixers are also after him and Hawks, if they can pay. would be a better fit for Ferry who would have more power. Let's hope that work out quickly. I am sure he is already in touch with Drew/ Pend maybe Sund (and Collins on the other side) in regards to their respective needs and potential moves.
Who are the hawks sending to the draft anyway, do we know?

The Hawks are a pawn in all this.....like free agents, we aren't paying for any elite talent.
Remember the Jerry West rumor, only to see him go to Memphis? Memphis?
This fan base just deserves better than the urgent owners.

is Ferry the guy who gave Larry Hughes his contract and did the Jamison deal?

He did do the Hughes deal but that was after Michael Redd turned them down to stay in Milwaukee. In retrospect you can say they both were bad deals but Hughes was 1st team all defense, led the league in steals at 3 a game to go along with 22 points 6 boards and 5 assists at the time. Just godly numbers that you couldn't argue against paying for. Joe was a FA too but only the Hawks were willing to offer a deal that Phoenix wouldn't match.
As far as the Jamison deal, by that point Lebron was supposedly getting final say in all moves made by the team in their desperation to keep him and rumor is he wanted Jamison because Hickson would have been a part of a deal for Amar'e.

Ferry's transactions with Cleveland are no where bad deals. Anybody complaining about Larry Hughes, probably wasn't watching the Wizards that year before. As mentioned, after Redd declined to leave Milwaukee, Hughes made to much sense to go after. Unfortunately, he didn't fit with Lebron and never justified the contract he was given. Wasn't a horrible move since Cleveland had cap room. At least he was aggressive and assertive enough to try and put pieces around Lebron, which I think he did a pretty good job doing.

sounds like you don't have a good memory of the NBA in 2005. i remember all the Wizards fans saying that Hughes doesn't deserve a max contract and didn't want the organization to give it to him.
Hughes was like the Josh Smith back in the day, a guy with low shooting percentage, never made an all star team, long history of injuries, and only one year where he averaged over 20ppg. so offering Hughes max was and is pretty ridiculous
the consensus about Hughes in 2005 around the NBA and Washington was that max was way too much for a guy with a limited resume, and the Cavs (Ferry) was the only ones who offered Hughes max, and their was no bidding war (unlike Joe situation).
