I hope its not true, but if it is Marvin needs to go as well, I see some laker fans also want us to give Teague or our 1st rounder, in which case Ferry should hang up right away even tho hes the one who made the call

I saw their thread, and seems like some of them (not all) look like they never saw Josh play.
They don't make the difference between some of his frustrating plays, and the fact that he's a real impact guy, and that with a good head coach, he would be even better than now.
OK, they have Brown now, and not Jackson, but they a guy like Kobe that can make Josh play right, and forget his long 2s (he has better trying a 3 if it's for the same %).
One guy think he doesn't deserve more than $8M...

it wasn't Ferry that made the call. it was Sund. Danny Ferry was just Hired what two days ago. the hawks contacted the lakers about Gasol about a month ago. read link
"""The Atlanta Hawks have aggressively tried to trade power forward Josh Smith to the Lakers for Pau Gasol, initially expressing interest in Gasol shortly after Oklahoma City eliminated the Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals, The Times has learned.""""" that was before Ferry was hired

Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times is not known for reporting facts or being a reputable journalist. only a few months ago, he reported that the Lakers were working on a trade that would send Steve Blake out and have Michael Beasley joining the Lakers.
Bresnahan has a twitter account and is known for posting things to get hits.

That was true. The deal fell through at the last moment as they Lakers weren't able to move Blake. If they could have moved Blake, they were going to use a 2nd round pick on Beasly who the Wolves were looking to just get rid of the contract.
I'm not sure of the rest of the guys rumors, but that one was accurate.

no, it was never accurate, the blazers didn't want to have anything to do with the trade from the start, and never had legs, but blogers always tried to keep it alive.

Memphis is apparently offering Zach Randolph for Pau Gasol. I wonder if Memphis would be more appealing to Pau Gasol since his brother would be his teammate.

I would hope Gasol would see a return to memphis as a move backwards and that playing/working with family as not all it's cracked up to be.
It won't happen, but Gasol and Horford would be the best frontcourt in the league. You add Fab Melo to that rotation and we'd dominate the paint against every Eastern Conference team.
If slow, immobile Roy Hibbert can give the HEAT trouble, Gasol and Melo should be enough to literally give them fits. Especially with the JJ and Teague being pretty fantastic wing defenders and more than capable on the offensive end.

Roy Hibbert is a great defender. Gasol is a below-average defender.
If we trade Josh for Pau, I will be very sad. If we trade him and also toss in Teague, our pick, or both, I'm done with this team.

Its just a rumor. Ferry said hes planning long term. Long term isnt pau gasol. Long term is a pick and or a young good player

Lakers are shopping Gasol... I don't think it is a bad trade for either team as Gasol, Horford & JJ would be a solid core in the East & Josh Smith may complement Bynum more than Gasol... Time will tell but Blake was part of that Beasley trade... Good luck next season...

With the ridiculous amount of disrespect thrown at the guy, I'd much rather ship out Bynum and watch Gasol return to his 19/11 days at C for the Lakers. Apparently the Lakers will listen for the right offer.

Hibbert...great?
I wouldn't go that far. He's a solid big man in the middle. But let's not put him in the same mold as Dwight, KG, Ibaka, etc.
And the difference in bpg this season between Hibbert, Josh Smith and Pau Gasol is negligible.
Hibbert 2 bpg
Smoove 1.7 bpg
Gasol 1.4 bpg
Not to mention that Gasol is taller, bigger than Josh Smith and quicker than Hibbert.
He also has two NBA rings and he was All-NBA 2nd team just one year ago.
I think we tend to sleep on Gasol for some reason.

Gasol is soft, I want no part of him on this team. Plus, it doesn't seem like the Lakers are too pumped about getting Josh either. If we do deal Josh, I want it to be to Houston with Jeremy Lamb still on the board.

Yeah.
I hate players that are well rounded and actually win games, titles, championships. That makes All Star Teams and All-NBA Teams.
I'd rather have guys that are terrible, have bad attitudes and have low B-Ball IQs. Just so long as they dunk alot, right?
<sigh>

Dunks ... and blocks shots, rebounds, leads the fast break, is great at finishing fast breaks, passes, defends the rim much better than Gasol and can be unstoppable inside (admittedly, when he will).

It;s been 7 years. He's never accomplished anything.
He's led his team in rebounding...once.
He's led his team in scoring...never.
Potential is okay for a 19 year old. Not for a 27 year old.

9.6 reb/game, 3.9 assists/game, 1.7 blocks/game, 1.4 steals/game and 18.8 points/game aren't potential - they're production at an all-star level.

Gasol can match those numbers in rebounds, assists and blocks and has for a number of years. And did it shooting over 50% from the field.
Josh put up those impressive numbers once, but I have serious doubts that he can do it again. Especially with a healthy AL Horford back.
I think we may just have to agree to disagree on this one.
Question: do you ever wonder why no coaches, fans or players are ever clamoring for Josh Smith on their team?
JJ gets all star nods from the coaches. AL gets love from commentators, coaches, etc. But Josh gets snubbed. Every year. Why?

I must admit I was a little upset of the Pick at 23. but in rethinking it. I would much rather them draft a Jenkins and use the pick for a cheap player than trade the pick and Josh Smith to L.A. for Gasol. now I just hope that the hawks get a center via free agency.
we really need to get Kaman. but if we are unable to get him I believe Kwame Brown would be serviceable if we still have Smoove and Horford on the team. we could also pick up Thabeet I remember one of our blog'ers had a hard on for him last summer and wanted us to trade Smoove for him. LOL now he is out there for free. some people
