Brooklyn and Atlanta are engaged in talks on a possible Joe Johnson trade, sources tell Y! Nets plan would be to pair with Deron Williams.

I saw this on the General Board just now. I created a topic about Brooklyn possibly becoming desperate not long ago.

Big news. I think it is best for both parties to make it happen.
Could the hawks get Brook Lopez?

I doubt it.

If we could end up with Marshon Brooks and Anthony Morrow, I would be happy.

Johnson, 31, has four years and nearly $90 million dollars left on his contract. Shedding his contract would (give) Atlanta immense cap relief and flexibility moving forward.

The Nets would have to cobble together several contracts, including those of Jordan Farmar, who opted into the final $4.2 million year of his deal on Saturday, Anthony Morrow, Johan Petro and a sign-and-trade with one of the Nets free agents' to make the exchange of salaries work for Johnson’s contract. Johnson will $19.8 million next season.

--------

"...immense cap relief and flexibility moving forward" is not so bad. :D

I really think Ferry is exploring several options to get financial relief. I don't think it needs to be both Josh Smith and Joe and certainly not 60% of the whole team. Nets are desperate to get someone with an All-Star label to make Deron stay.

I really want this deal done BUT... "D. Howard met with new Magic GM Hennigan, told him he wants to be traded to Nets, sources say." It's all over Twitter minutes ago.

This is the exact deal I've been thinking that would solve our issues. Joe's contract essentially broken up into multiple contracts. This would be ideal IMO because we get one really good player in the SnT (either going to be Lopez or Wallace I would think) and a bunch of guys who will make for good depth. This deal is even better because all the extras are on expiring deals. This could be exactly what the doctor ordered to keep Josh and Al and retool.

I figured BK would come calling eventually. I actually think the nets wouldn't be bad either having Joe and Deron in the backcourt together. Thats probably the biggest backcourt in the league. Couple that with Brook and the nets aren't that bad of a team.

I'll take Farmar since we need depth and Farmar is solid. Pretty sure Morrow is coming our way, and possibly Petro. BK should be able to absorb the rest.

Id love this trade

BK could actually get both Howard and JJ. I think they S&T Hump to somebody else in a 3 way, then offer everything else to Orlando, and would be able to sign D Will with Bird Rights. They would have to renounce Wallace, but that team doesn't need Wallace then.

If things don't work out with Brooklyn.....

If Nash signs with the Raptors..........

***Scenario 1***
Calderon and Kleiza (or Bayless) for Joe
-Simple salary dumb and Ferry can sign free agents in 2013 (build the team he wants)

***Scenario 2***
Hawks get - Dwight and Turk
Raptors get - Joe
Magic get - Horford, Kleiza, and Calderon
-Hawks get Dwight / Rap get Joe and Nash / Magic get Horford and exp contact for Turk

Well, I won't have qualms if Ferry will try to make a rebuild.

If Danny Ferry gets rid of Joe and makes us a serious condentor in a few years then he deserves a statue outside of Phillips Arena

Would that be that bad though? Right now we are a treadmill team. At best we can make the 2nd round of the playoffs, nothing further. If we did do a complete rebuild, maybe we can add that superstar type player we don't have. JJ is good, Horford is good, Smith is good. If we want to contend for a title we need to try and add a superstar.

JJ's contract is huge albatross. If Josh bolts we are left with Horford, JJ, and Teague...still not a title team.

Here's a "What-If" for ya: Ferry is going to try and trade JJ and then go after Dwight.

If he can move JJ's contract for Brookln's spare change, then he has a lot of flexibility to use Horford to go get Howard to play with Smoove. We lose an all-star but gain a superstar and shift the balance of our offense to center around DH in the middle with a bunch of solid shooters on the outside. We will have strong defense with Dwight and Josh in the middle and already have a lot of depth. Resign Smoove next year because he sees this organization is going finally going somewhere, and Ferry can be the man to keep a solid team around them.

The main "IF" is can Ferry get Brooklyn to go ahead on the deal for JJ. A major factor here will be what Deron decides to do. If he stays with the Nets, it may be difficult to keep Howard from just going there. The ace we hold is Smoove is still a Hawk, and we have some control over the situation because of he and Dwight's desire to play together. I think we have a pretty good chance if we can move JJ.

Billy King is the only GM incompetent enough to consider such a deal.
