should we go after some free agents this year.

Post#1 » by truehawksfan121 » Fri Jul 6, 2012 1:10 pm

I know the hawks want to save there cap space for next year when Dwight Howard and Chris Paul become free agents hoping to get both of them. I just can't see Chris Paul leaving L.A. and there are not that many good free agents next year. I feel we can get some people this year with out taking us out the Dwight chase. Because if we gone have a chance to get Dwight we is going to need some type of roster that is close to competing for a title. 1 person we can get is O.J Mayo. He would be a great shooting guard to replace Joe Johnson and he will only cost around 8 million. Or a Jeff green. He is a good small forward and since he miss the season last year he would be price below market value. One thing I don't want see is the hawks with all of this cap space and no one to spend it own. like the position the Dallas mavericks are in right now

We just don't have that kind of money this year.

ummm...no.

1. There's no point this season.

2. We have no cap space.

It should be all undrafted Free Agents that we fill out the roster with. Let's build this thing the right way and not spend nilly willy. Who knows what holes will need to be filled long term after next summer's draft, trades and free agent signings.

In order to get Dwight Howard we have to show him a team that can compete for a title. Because he is not going to come here just cause we got cap space. And we have our midlevel and a huge trade exempt from the Joe Johnson trade. Look at the 2013 free agent list. Not that many superstars or even quality players. And if we don't get Dwight Howard we will be a team with a lot of money to spend and no superstar to give it to. Next year we are going to be like 45 million under the cap. Even if we add one more quality player we will still have 30 to 35 million in cap space.

We don't have a lot of money, but we are 2.6M under the salary cap if we renounce all exceptions and rights, which is not interesting because we could use this 2.6M on a player, then use the Room MLE to sign another one at 2.5M, better use the Non-Taxpayer MLE of 5M.

Can we add all of those up to offer 8 million to OJ Mayo, Jeff Green and the like? Exactly, we can't just throw money like that at guys like OP is suggesting but rather try to split it amongst a wing and C if we aren't going the trade route.

Yet he was willing to go to the Nets who have been pathetic for half a decade?

He wants the big city, bright lights of NYC. The glitz of having Jay-Z as a boss.

We need to focus on drafting/developing young talent. Maybe we find another player in the rough if we give some young players real PT like we did with Ivan 'The Terrible' Johnson.

What are Keith benson, Pape Sy and Cenk Aykol doing this summer anyway?

My only problem is I don't want the hawks to go back to the bottom of the east. I don't have a problem taking one step back. Cause even with out Joe and Marvin the hawks is still have the talent to be somewhere around 7 to 10. I just read an article on ajc and the hawks are going after some free agents to improve the team. The only thing I'm saying is have a solid plan b. I just don't want to see the hawks give out bad contracts just because they have cap space. I saw Detroit do it with Ben and Charlie v. I see Houston doing now. And Dallas got all that money and couldn't land no good free agents.

Yeah but look at the free agents next year. If we don't get Dwight, Chris, or James harden. Who else could we get that would put us in a better position than we were in.

If John Jenkins and Morrow can form a reliable combo at the 2, then all we need is Pekovich at center.

New Lineup:
Teague
Morrow/Jenkins
Smoove
Horford
Pekovic

all that and we will still have around 10 mil to spend on other FAs next summer, guys like Monta, Jennings, Tyreke ect

Seeing as Paul is very unlikely to leave LA, and me not really wanting Dwight with his back issue and money we have to pony up, a signing of Pekovich and Reke would be a great off-season. I have faith Evans could be our #1 with Al and Josh as his 2nd & 3rd options. He could be a steal if the Maloofs don't want to overpay. We would have versatility all throughout that lineup.

He hasn't because he'll get more money when the season is over. Max contracts are based on how many completed seasons you've spent in the league and an extension can only be for a certain amount of years in addition to his current contract.

Right now the kings want to trade Evans cause he doesn't want to play small forward and the kings have decided to go with Marcus Thornton and Thomas as their starting backcourt. He does not ha e a further with the kings. U can probably get Evans right now for a 1st round pick. I like o.j mayo over Evans. James harden might become available next year. The only reason I like mayo so much now is u get at an discount right now.
