Kyle Lowry to Toronto: Good news or Bad news for the Hawks?

Toronto trades 1st round pick to Houston for Lowry...

I was hoping that the Rockets could make the 8th seed in the west so that the Hawks can get the 15th pick in the draft.

but it looks like Houston is tanking.

but the way the Rockets roster look along with their management, Houston might be one of the worst teams in the NBA for the next 3 to 5 years. so Hawks could end up with a lottery pick in 2014 or 2015.

--The 2013 Rockets (lottery protected) first round pick: The pick is lottery protected (1-14) through 2016. That means the pick rolls over each year through 2016. If the Rockets finish outside the lottery in any of those years, the Hawks get it. But if in 2017, if the protections have prevented the Hawks from using it, it becomes a second round pick and the Hawks would receive an unspecified amount of cash from the Rockets

If the above is true, that Houston pick will NEVER turn into a lottery pick. The best we can hope for is the 15th pick in the draft. At worst it's another 2nd rounder and cash, so don't count on this pick too much.

it's very bad news for us. But I'm sure at some point all the young pieces they got in the draft will get them an 8th seed in the next 5 years.

Here's to hoping Lin doesn't get exposed.

I doubt Houston is trying to tank, they just are having some bad breaks, and now New York is going to match Lin's contract.

Jeremy Lin signs with Houston.

this might be good news for the Hawks. maybe this gets the Rockets to the 8th seed in the west and ultimately gets the Hawks the 15th pick in the 2013 draft.

now we will see what happens with Omer Asik
