CNNSI article on Josh Smith and the Hawks

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Wed Jul 18, 2012 3:37 am

"I think we have a great GM in Danny Ferry, and he has a plan that he's putting together. It looks good. I really am just trying to get to know these guys, to build a relationship and see where the team is going to end up closer to veterans' camp. I'm just excited. We have a lot of elite shooters, and I can see us being a run-and-gun shooting team."

Asked if he still wants to be traded, Smith promptly responded, "No."

Not exactly breaking news, but a few things stood out.

1. J-Smoove wants to stay.
2. Smoove doesn't deny he was seeking a trade earlier this year.
3. He's in favor of the reboot and doesn't seem to torn about Marvin OR Joe being dealt.

4. CNNSI views Devin Harris as the lead guard to bring it all together.

Well i like to see a happy Josh. Now we need better offseason. Improved coaching philosophy. And we have to stick it through this rebuilding time

I'm excited about Al with more responsability on the offensive-end, he can be really good with more shots.

DITTO!!!!

Most fans don't realize that AL's scoring numbers AND FG% have increased every full season he's played.

It's rare that a player gets more shots and hits those shots at a higher percentage every year. Hope AL survives the makeover and turns into a 20 ppg 10 rpg guy.

He's pretty much already there, just has to become a larger part of the offense.

Hey. He was already at 15 ppg & 9.6 rpg as the third option (and without a real Point Guard).

As a second option and without a ball stopper like JJ, I expect Devin Harris and a more experienced Jeff Teague to get him easier buckets.

If they run the pick n roll with Harris & Horford, I expect big things with that duo.

Anybody else wonder if Joe and Josh didn't really like each other? I know, I know, we read how Josh was "shaken" by Joe's trade but I also remember Joe complaining about "guys knowing their role" when I was pretty sure he meant Josh. Now, with Joe gone, Josh gets more shots, gets to play SF (I really think he's been wanting that) and becomes our "go-to" man.

Maybe Joe's trade ended the "trade me" talk?
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

That made me sick to my stomach.

But, yes, I doubt the two saw eye to eye. I agreed with Joe at the time when he made that comment about guys knowing their role.

Josh played his role to a tee. The power forward who plays at a hectic pace to outquick opponents. Its not Josh's fault the Hawks didn't play the big lineup more.
