Jason Collins will no longer be a Hawk...... I am sort of happy about that. even though Collins gave the Hawks some good minutes, he is just not a NBA player ,physically, anymore. So now that he is gone the hawks will have to find someone to replace him. Hope it is not Dampier.
I believe we will just ride it out with Horford, Zaza, Petro, Ivan, and either Jordan Williams or Benson as the big men for this season. and go after three free agents next summer. the free agents I feel they will target are
1st Josh Smith, then once they have landed him CP3, then Dwight Howard. I feel they should get CP3 first to show Dwight they mean busisness. if they can not land Dwight however I feel they will then look at Al Jefferson. I believe they want a big 3 of Dwight, CP3, and Smoove for plan A.
plan B would be CP3, Smoove, Al ( Horford-N- Jefferson)
I feel they keep Devin Harris around this year to see if he should be the starter either over Teague or if he can hold down the SG spot.
this is what I feel Danny Ferry's plan is.
I think it is a good one.

Honestly, I think Ferry's plan is to build around a big - Plan A is D12; Plan B is Bynum. CP3 would be nice (very nice), but I think we could go with Teague and L Williams if it means dumping Horford to land him.
The interesting bit would be if we miss out on Howard and Bynum though. Jefferson is interesting, but I don't think he's a Ferry type of guy - we'll want a rim protector with our defensively challenged wing core. My guess would be we stick with Horford/Smoove down low and maybe go after a stop gap (Kaman?) to fill out the rotation until we can acquire/develop another.

you would rather have Dwight, Horford, and Teauge as opposed to CP3 and Dwight with Josh Smith?
I like Horford too, but he will never be on the level of Dwight or Chris Paul..

I like a frontcourt of Howard and Horford more than a frontcourt of Howard and Smoove.
If we were to pull CP3, Howard and keep Horford. That's the best frontcourt in the league.
And a package of Smoove, Teague and a 1st round pick could net us something pretty big in a trade.

why do you think that a frontcourt of Howard and Horford would be better than Horford and Smoove? neither one of them can create and generate their own offense (Horford or Howard). Smoove can. so on the offense side of the ball I would think that they would be equally as good. because Horford has an excellent mid-range game and Horward is a beast down low. and Smoove is pretty good on the block as well and would not see much if any double teams down low with Howard, and Howard is a beast down low. plus Smoove is a excellent passer.
but on the defense side of the ball, Horford is a good defender but he doesn't make big time defense plays (or offensive plays) like Smoove. and we already know that Howard is a beast.
so I would think that Smoove and Howard would be a better frontcourt than Horford and Howard.. but what if we could have all three of them?

Re: Jason Collins
A total shock to see Collins staying in the league. I thought LD was keeping him in the league.
LD is going through withdrawals as we speak.
So as we go forward, we do have to turn a page and get a backup C who can help us behind Zaza and Al in a pinch. Collins made sense in that regard, but you couldn't count on him to be healthy or in shape. I don't think he will impact us should we meet again in the playoffs.
But if you think Al is the better PF.....you haven't watched this team. We would be a halfcourt team for sure with Al and D12. Josh gives you options, and his best position is PF. Is he going back to PF even if D12 leaves? Possibly not.
Josh just needs to quit chunking up so many jumpers. There are more options on this team than that.

Rather have Dwight and Smith over Al and Howard. Josh obviously proved he can carry a good portion of the load for a winning team with a competent 2nd option. Horford I highly doubt can do that. Also, if Josh was not brought back, and went elsewhere, I could see him joining up with Portland, Indiana, Sacramento, or Detroit and forming a way better frontcourt than Howard-Horford.

I'm just glad Collins is gone. Dude has no business being in the NBA. Dampier at 40 and out of shape is better than him, if it wasn't for Drew''s stupid decision to stick with his "guys" Collins would not have seen a minute on the court last season.

Re: Jason Collins
I personally would rather have a front court of Smith/Horford than either of the choices.
Dwight Howard is a: Whiny B: Not very good offensively C: Can't have the ball passed to him in close games because he can't shoot freethrows D: Not a great passer out of the double team.
Yes he rebounds and yes he blocks shots. Offensively he shouldn't be the first option over Horford or Smith but I would GUESS he would insist on it.
I would rather have a Bynum/Horford or Bynum/Smith front court.

GUY!!! YOU CAN 'T BE SERIOUS!!!! Howard has average a double double since he has been in the league .
with the last five years averaging 20 points a game. how can someone average 20 points a game and not be very good offensively?

Like offense moves that get him those points.Other than his size. I guess.

not sure what you meant by this post.... it doesn't matter how he gets the points, the fact remains. he gets them.

Couldn't agree more. Dude has a mediocre post game and can't shoot free throws. Once he loses his athleticism, he's done because all he can do is convert put backs and lobs.

Horford's amazing mid-range game is the better complement to Howard's (limited) post game. Helps to spread the floor as you can't leave Horford to double Howard.
Defensively, they're the biggest/strongest duo in the league both capable of guarding centers and PFs. We would own every other team on the offensive/defensive boards
Smoove is a very good passer, but I don't want him shooting threes or mid range jumpers. He also isn't strong enough to guard most PFs.
Keeping all three is a thought, but I'd rather we had a shooter at SG like Jenkins and a SF able to create his own shot off the dribble like Gay/Pierce.

Smith post game is above average at the least. Which in return would keep him still productive still. Smith is a lot more skilled than Howard. He just hasn't shown it consistent enough. He also shoots a lot better than Howard on free throws. I'd say average compared to Howards below average-poor.

Re: Jason Collins
About Smith or Horford being a better fit. Yeah Horford fits better as a spacer, but Smith has the ability to operate from the triple threat spot. If he can improve his shot selection, Smith-Howard would be the best frontcourt in the League. Horford is more of an asset in the low block defending than he is facing up. Having Howard can eliminate Horford in the post since very few teams have 2 guys that bang on the low block.

Pierce is about to retire,
Gay, Horford, Dwight is a good frontcourt.
But would MEM go for: Josh , Zach, Gasol
?
