OKC rumored to have interest in Josh Smith

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Tue Jan 1, 2013 1:08 pm

http://thunderousintentions.com/2012/12/31/nba-trades-could-the-okc-thunder-make-a-play-for-atlantas-josh-smith/

Sam Amico mentions that the Thunder have considerable interest in both Anderson Varejao and Josh Smith. Cleveland is believed to have multiple options for dealing Varejao and are asking for a king's ransom for their All-Star caliber Center.

The article mentions that for salaries to work, Kevin Martin and Kyle Korver would likely have to be included. Also, that OKC may try to pawn Kendrick Perkins off on us.

Assets on the Thunder that might interest us are multiple 1st round picks this year and Jeremy Lamb or Perry Jones III. (Two guys highly regarded going into last year's draft.)

Josh would be a great addition to a Thunder squad giving them a dependable 3rd option. I do see him and Ibaka as very similar types of players. I wonder how they would work together and if we could get Ibaka and change in exchange for Josh instead.

Earlier this year, I advocated trading Josh (or even AL) to OKC when they were shopping Harden. Mark Bradley mentioned that Ferry was hesitant to include either guy in a trade and was not prepared to sign Harden to a long-term deal.

You guys interested in renting Kevin martin and grooming Perry Jones or Jeremy Lamb for the future?
I'd say no to even touching Perkin's contract, but we've seen that, offensively, this team can at least survive without Josh. Defensively we'd become weaker, though I view Perry Jones as a solid bg man prospect and a productive shot blockr.
If we can wrangle Ibaka from them and a couple of draft picks, I'd be all over it.

It looks like one of those OKC draft picks is a conditional lottery pick from TOR. THAT could prove very valuable.

Maybe we include a third team like Utah and trade for Al Jefferson or Paul Milsap.

Or even make a run at Cousins.

If they are really interested in josh smith, they should have let it be known when they wanted to trade James harden. Now the thunder can't offer us a good package for josh. And if the thunder couldn't afford to pay harden what he wanted, they will can't afford josh smith. But josh smith and Ibaka front court would have been a defensive nightmare and made the thunder the best defensive team in the nba

Can't see OKC letting Ibaka go for Smoove, dude is a beast and he still hasn't reached his full potential.

Talks should end as soon as they mention Perkins, I do not want that contract on my team. But I would be interested in Lamb, Perry Jones, and that TOR Pick
