Sam Amico mentions that the Thunder have considerable interest in both Anderson Varejao and Josh Smith. Cleveland is believed to have multiple options for dealing Varejao and are asking for a king's ransom for their All-Star caliber Center.
The article mentions that for salaries to work, Kevin Martin and Kyle Korver would likely have to be included. Also, that OKC may try to pawn Kendrick Perkins off on us.
Assets on the Thunder that might interest us are multiple 1st round picks this year and Jeremy Lamb or Perry Jones III. (Two guys highly regarded going into last year's draft.)
Josh would be a great addition to a Thunder squad giving them a dependable 3rd option. I do see him and Ibaka as very similar types of players. I wonder how they would work together and if we could get Ibaka and change in exchange for Josh instead.
Earlier this year, I advocated trading Josh (or even AL) to OKC when they were shopping Harden. Mark Bradley mentioned that Ferry was hesitant to include either guy in a trade and was not prepared to sign Harden to a long-term deal.
You guys interested in renting Kevin martin and grooming Perry Jones or Jeremy Lamb for the future?
I'd say no to even touching Perkin's contract, but we've seen that, offensively, this team can at least survive without Josh. Defensively we'd become weaker, though I view Perry Jones as a solid bg man prospect and a productive shot blockr.
If we can wrangle Ibaka from them and a couple of draft picks, I'd be all over it.
